Pelicanos en el Malecón. ∞ Pelicans on the Seawall.
In the course of a trip passing through the state of Sucre - Venezuela we stopped to eat something and we were able to entertain ourselves for a while with these peculiar aquatic birds. Every time we see these birds in movies or photos they are usually white with black but the ones we are seeing are brown pelicans that have a black with gray or brown color.
Pelicans are a species that generally live in colonies, hunt collaboratively in flocks, and inhabit coastal areas.
This particular species primarily nests in trees as opposed to whites that generally nest on the ground.
Watching them jump into the water in search of their prey is very relaxing. They feed mainly on fish that swim near the surface, capturing them with their beaks in which they have a kind of sack or bag that allows them to both collect fish and drain the water.
After each dive they can be seen walking with open wings to sneak out. The attitude of these birds towards people can be a bit hostile as they are used to being scared off by fishermen as they interfere with fishing.
Los pelícanos siempre dan mucho juego, bonitas fotografías.
