RE: Dugouts in Novoarkhangelskoye highway

The sight of these structures above the basements raised many concerns and questions for me because of how precarious they looked.
Did you ever see any of the residents?

There are no people living under these roofs))
These are storage facilities for vegetables and other products.
Not everything can be put in a refrigerator, and not everyone has a cellar under their house.
But now all these cellars (almost all) are abandoned and just live out their days.

Thanks for the clarification. I assure you that in my country they would be used as residences, even though they're falling apart and despite the snow and cold.

Yes, I saw the residents of this structures (it's joke)
These are sheds with a pit for storing vegetables. Everything that has grown in the garden (potatoes, carrots, beets, cabbage) and preparations in jars (salted and pickled cucumbers and tomatoes, sauerkraut, mushrooms) are put there. An acceptable temperature for storage is maintained in a deep pit - food does not deteriorate or freeze.

It's true, I read the word "shed," but seeing how dilapidated some of them were, I associated them with people living inside. In Venezuela, some people would use them. Here, we “euphemistically” call them "ranches." (ranchos)
