Creative Writing "Surprise"

This is the story of those days when I had just finished my pre-college and was admitted to an undergraduate engineering course. I was separated from my family for the first time, so I had packed my bags and other belongings and had gone to live away from home.

I had also brought my bike and Yonex badminton racket and practiced daily, but it still felt weird and lonely to live in a hostel, but I knew this was my destiny and going to be for the next five years.

That was my nineteenth birthday. It was four in the evening, and for the first time in my life, I was feeling sad on my birthday. I remember my last birthdays always being celebrated as a festival at my home every year.

I agree there were never big celebrations those days, cake, or countless big gifts, but there was always lots of love from the family members and friends from school and nearby areas. Today I was missing that love, celebration and friends.

Today, everything seemed sad, as due to coming exams, I did not have time to go home and come back. The first semester exams were just two days away. I was feeling very lonely even while living in a hostel full of other boys, but I did not have any close friends until then.

Going to meet my family was not possible because my father had refused to send money for the tickets, and then there was this exam issue. The more I thought about it, the more sad I felt.

Feeling dejected, I decided that the best way to celebrate my birthday without getting sad was to sleep all day and spend the evening watching Asha Parekh and Dharmendra's movie. I had made up my mind and went to bed.

I was about to fall asleep when I heard a knock on my room door. I opened the door. This was Vipin, who lived in the room next to mine, an electrical engineering student, with a bag hanging on his shoulder.

He said, "Happy birthday, Dev!

I thanked him, but I was surprised at how he knew about my birthday!

He smiled and said, "Yesterday I heard you talking to your father on the phone in the common room. It made me really sad, so I thought I would bring some sweets and food for you, and we both will celebrate your birthday together. I hope you like this food and sweets."

This gesture made me so emotional that I was surprised and my heart filled with a strange love for him. I couldn't hold myself back and hugged him tightly. At that moment, all my pain turned into gratitude and love, and I forgot memories of my home and family for a while.

I felt that today I had found a true friend and the love of an entire family. We both sat there and celebrated for a long time, and after that, we both went to watch the movie I had planned earlier. Surprisingly, he was also a fan of Asha Parekh.

We all need this kind of love in our life. I can imagine been in your shoes, tears would have poured out from my eyes but I would never let him see it . Let me not appear weak!😊😊

Same here! You know men do not want to show their tears but they weep for sure.

Interesting story you have shared. In life we are bound to miss loved ones and friends which reminds me of my school days.
