We had heard similar things for a long time and mostly avoided buying from Amazon. Until we got to know real employees from Amazon's offices and warehouses – friends of neighbours... – who raved about the best employer ever! Beyond the legal requirements – support after long-term illness, employee loans, free choice of location, special payments... As I understand it, these poor working conditions affect delivery drivers, who often work as subcontractors. That doesn't make it any better; Amazon could use its market power to provide relief.
