It's World environment day: A global call for climate action
5th June every year is marked to celebrate the world environment day. This is a means to create awareness as it concerns issues relating to our environment, and urge people to take responsible and positive actions that helps in protecting our environment. The environmental day came to force through the United Nations in 1972 in the course of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. Since then, it has become become one of the largest global environmental events been observed.
For this event, it hovers on our communities, educational institutions, business and non business organizations, governments at all levels and the entire people on earth to take full part actions that helps to conserve the environment. Such actions can include:
- Environmental education
- Environmental clean up exercises
- Tree planting activities
The day brings it to our mind that all humans depend on the environment for survival and so there is every need for us to care and protect it both now and for the future generations.

For this year, the attention is hinged on climate actions with a pressing need to solve climate change challenges using sustainable actions steps coming with solutions that backed by nature. To this end, this theme is therefore, calling on all persons , organizations, communities, business and non business institutions, and various governments join hands in making efforts to reduce the impact of environmental degradation so that we can have a healthier and safe environment.
Things that threaten our environment
Our environment has been facing some challenges are making it unsafe for for to live in. Some of them are:
- Increase in waste generation
- Climate change
- Pollution on land, air , seas and oceans
- Increasing Loss of plants and animals

We can tackle or overcome the threats to our environment in the following ways:
- Through waste recycle management
- Adopt renewable energy
- Making and enforcing environmental laws
- Embarking on regular environmental clean up exercises
- Ensuring the conservation of energy and water habitats
- Educate the masses on the need for environmental conservation
- Embark on tree planting campaigns and protection of plants and animals
Observing this environmental day should not be taken lightly. We are living in environment threatened by a lot of challenges. Climate change, pollution, loss of plants and animals, poor waste management system. All these constitute serious threats to our environment. Taking responsible actions to protect and preserve our environment would help us salvage the fast degrading environment.
