The dairy game: hardwork pays (27/02/2026)

Today I want to share some of the activities I engaged with. Before completing my morning chores, I heard a knock on my door. I went outside to find out who was actually looking calling my attention. Yes! It was my friend mother. Actually, the daughter who is my friend have been telling her a lot about me, especially in the area of cooking. I leave with aunty who is a caterer, and i've learnt so much about cooking and the process of preparing it.

This my friend mother came with a request to assist her in slicing, pounding and drying afang leaf. Afang leaf is a very popular leaf in my state. Of all other leaves that is consume here, afang is the most needed. No wedding or traditional marriage, funeral and other ceremonies would be completed without cooking afang soup. It is a delicious delicacy and most expensive.

I accepted to help her out because she is paying for it. I must survive anyways, that's while any work that pays which is legit cannot pass me, I have to utilize that opportunity for my daily survival.

Firstly, I plucked/selected the four bunches of afang, then washed and drained the water using garri bag. This bag help to dry the water, and then pour it on a big basin. I began to slice it. I didn't finished all in one day because it was much for sake of sun drying it has to be little by little. I sounded it till it blended together and proceeded to sun dry it.

After drying it, I put it in a zip lock bag. She is sending it to her sister in another country. She paid for the service I rendered and was impressed by my effort. My hand is really pained at the moment because that was a difficult task. I rubbed hot balm on my palms to ease the pain. Sometimes, life doesn't give good option to choose, I have to accepting doing that because I needed support. I just believe it would be better soon, because I never imagined I can handled such a huge task. I later buy some foodstuffs from my wages, prepared and enjoy myself.
