Keep the lotus leaves healthy
Lotus are really nice but just like any living thing plant or animal they could be not be healthy. If you have lotus and you're trying to figure out what is happening with a lotus, look for different symptoms on the stems, leaves, tubers, flowers and even how the lotus grows. For the younger leaves, if you notice yellowing and older leaves are still intact, then they're likely experiencing a nutrient deficiency, and it could be from either a lack of nitrogen or tuber issues. What I know is you can try adding some aquatic fertilizer, and be really careful using nitrogen too late in the growing season. If you see yellowing between the veins or random leaves on the stem turn yellow, maybe they a deficiency with Iron or some of the other micronutrients. The Yellowing between the veins is common in if the plant is in high pH water.
When you have a lotus, you shouldn't grow it in a vase, it needs nutrients and space to grow. You should make a pond instead. Creating a large, deep enough space so the root system can spread out. Just like you wouldn’t try to grow a large plant in a vase, you can't grow a lotus in a vase.
As long as it has the proper nutrients and spacing you don’t have to worry about water temperature or light too much. If your lotus plant is dying and you are low on water or your water is too hot then you should remove some of the water. If there is a build up of rotting leaves it is a sign you should reduce the water. Lotus leaves grow to survive and grow outside the water. It is not a problem if the water level is too low.
Did you know that the Lotus seeds can stay alive for 200 years. I was surprised to know this.
