Gaming: Kona

Kona is a investigative game set in 1970's Canada, the player takes on the role of Carl Faubert, an investigator set to meet with a client in a snowy town in Northern Quebec. During his arrival, Carl discovers that the town has been deserted; only little fragments of information scattered around the town hint at what is going on.

The game features narration over Car's actions and thoughts, adding to the way in which the game's narrative unfolds throughout the game, making its survival-like elements hold a little more weight to them outside of aimlessly running around for resources in the snow.

In the game, the player must maintain his sanity, warmth, and overall health amidst the eerie and unyielding snow, in addition to the strange threats that lurk within it. This is done through constantly making fires and not steering too far into the wilderness to ensure your investigative nature remains fixated on the next objectives--you are constantly going from A to B in Kona, and its constant movement isn't there to be a challenge, but more additional to the narrative and eerie atmosphere and unexpected turns in the story arise.

Kona is an immersive adventure. It focuses on narrative rather than large portions of gameplay. Its story is unique, strange, atmospheric, and beautifully written. It's well worth the play with a warm drink on a cold, April night.
