The October contest #1 by sduttaskitchen|How do you glance towards the word disability?
Hello amigos, it's a pleasure to be part of this week's contest. This contest focuses on disabilities that most individuals encounter in their lifetime. It's our duty as individuals who are not disabled to help those who are disabled in any way we can.
I look at disability as a word that deals with any physical, mental, emotional, or cognitive condition that affects the daily activities of several individuals. This is just when individuals have some things which they are not capable of doing either because they were born like that or due to some man-made activities. These disabilities usually make individuals incapable of functioning as they used to, not being complete again.
It is a little difficult to make a choice between mental and physical disabilities but for me are nowhere near mental disabilities, mental disabilities seem more challenging. Physical disabilities include of inability to move from place to place sensory disabilities, and chronic illnesses which usually cause does going through these disabilities to have limited access ♿ to physical space, activities, and transportation.
These physical disabilities can also cause pain management and fatigue, making those disabled require assistive devices or caregivers. On the other hand, critical mental disabilities such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and bipolar disorder, are capable of presenting challenges to emotional regulation and mood management. Those who experience mental disabilities often face social stigma and isolation, and also difficulty in concentration sometimes due to inadequate treatment when ill.
In order to encourage individuals with disabilities one must have understanding, empathy, and support. We can encourage those who are disabled by paying attention to their worries and finding a way of making them feel important and not left out, and while they are sharing their feelings we are expected not to judge. We can also aid those with disabilities by assisting them with their daily tasks, such as keeping the environment clean, going shopping for them, etc.
Those who are disabled do not usually have access to physical space, it is are duty to make sure that physical spaces are constantly available, and also provide devices which can assist them if necessary. We can help by introducing them to organizations, online communities, and support groups. We can make them feel better by encouraging them to take control of their lives and make their own decisions. We can also make their social life worthwhile by inviting them to hobbies, social events.
