Before Welcoming the New Year 🥳

The Sinhala New Year is a bustling time for all of us. After cleaning the house and garden, we put in a lot of effort to give our surroundings a fresh look. Decorating the New Year's table beautifully is also a big part of the festivities.

When we were little, our parents took care of everything, so I didn't do much. But as I grew up, I got the chance to do many of those things myself. This year, especially, my mother gave me the opportunity to prepare many foods and New Year sweets on my own.

I used to only make kokis for a long time. But this year, I also made kavum, welithalapa, and aluva in addition to kokis. It was actually very interesting to cook the food and taste it.

Next, my mom wanted to make the Sinhala pickle. She makes these pickles very tasty. But I also wanted to learn, so I made the Sinhala pickle this time, following my mother's instructions.

Then, I prepared my favourite food, fish cutlets. I have shared how to make cutlets easily in an earlier post. By making a lot of cutlets and storing them in the freezer, we can use them for several days. It's a very convenient way to save time.

That's how I prepared many sweets and foods this New Year. As I write this post today, the Sinhala and Tamil New Year of 2024 has dawned.

So, I wish everyone a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year! 🙏🍀
