When it comes to romantic dramas, especially adaptations from bestselling novels, it’s always a tricky balance. It can either hit you right in the feelings or feel a bit too dramatic for its own good. And Colleen Hoover adaptations usually fall into that space where emotions drive everything. Some people love it, some people don’t. I went into this movie knowing exactly that.

“Regretting You” is a #romance #drama #movie released in 2025, based on the novel by Colleen Hoover. The movie mainly focuses on relationships, misunderstandings, grief, and the complicated bond between a mother and a daughter. Like most book-to-screen adaptations, it tries to stay close to the source material while making it accessible for a wider audience.

Allison Williams, Mckenna Grace, Dave Franco, and Mason Thames play the main roles in the movie. If a normal movie had a 25% in Rottentomatoes, that movie most probably be good as grounded and most likely to be a box office flop. But this is not. It has grossed $90 million worldwide on a budget of $30 million. Can say it's the power of Colleen Hoover.

The story revolves around Morgan and her teenage daughter Clara. Morgan became a mother at a very young age and had to give up many of her dreams along the way. Clara, on the other hand, wants freedom, love, and a life that’s completely different from her mother’s. They love each other, but they don’t really understand each other at all.

Things take a tragic turn when an accident changes their lives forever. This event becomes the turning point of the movie, pushing both Morgan and Clara into emotional chaos. Secrets come out, relationships are tested, and both of them are forced to deal with regret in different ways. While Morgan struggles with loss and the choices she made in the past, Clara starts seeing life and love from a more painful, grown-up perspective.

The movie moves back and forth between emotional conversations, personal struggles, and romantic angles, keeping the focus on how grief and regret can shape people. It’s not a fast-paced movie, but it leans heavily into emotions, just like the novel does.

So will Morgan and Clara finally understand each other? Will regret turn into acceptance, or will it push them further apart? And can love really heal everything that’s broken? It’s up to you to find out.
