Tech Blog #236 | Poco F8 Ultra : That's Another Speaker !!

#Poco tried something bold with the Poco F8 Ultra. Instead of just being another #mid-range phone, it feels like the brand is stepping into affordable flagship territory. You get flagship-class power, a massive battery, and a camera setup that aims higher than most Poco phones ever have. But, as usual, it’s not just a straight-up upgrade in every area.

The Poco F8 Ultra comes with a 6.9-inch 120Hz AMOLED display that hits up to 3500 nits of peak brightness and supports Dolby Vision plus HDR10+. At first glance, it looks like a flagship panel, and in many situations it performs like one too. It’s smooth and bright, perfect for gaming and videos. Still, some users online feel the default colour tuning looks washed out compared to other high-end screens, and it doesn’t offer LTPO efficiency levels seen on more expensive phones.

Under the hood is the #Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset paired with up to 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. Performance is very fast whether you’re multitasking or playing demanding games. Real-world reports are mixed on thermals, with some people noticing throttling and heat build-up under heavy sustained load while others say it stays surprisingly stable.

Poco didn’t skip on the camera hardware for this one. You get a triple 50 MP setup with a Light Fusion 950 main sensor with OIS, a 50 MP periscope telephoto with 5x optical zoom and OIS, and a 50 MP ultrawide camera. There’s also a 32 MP selfie camera up front. The main camera and telephoto punch above their price class and deliver detailed shots with good dynamic range. The ultrawide and front camera are solid, although some reviewers say the ultrawide videos aren’t the best.

Battery life is one of the standout points here. Poco packs a 6500 mAh battery with 100 W wired charging and 50 W wireless charging, plus 22.5 W reverse charging. That’s a huge cell for a phone that still feels sleek in the hand, and most users find they can easily get through a full day and then some. Some owners even report two to three days of moderate usage.

The phone also adds some interesting extras like IP68 dust and water resistance, an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, Sound by Bose stereo speakers with an integrated subwoofer, 5G, Wi-Fi 7 and HyperOS 3 based on #Android 16. The audio here is actually surprisingly good for a smartphone, with deeper bass than usual thanks to the Bose tuning.

Not everything is perfect though. The display, while bright, lacks the refresh-rate control that LTPO panels offer, and some users feel the color calibration could be more vibrant. Heavy CPU throttling under long gaming sessions does show up in real-world testing for some units. The software experience with HyperOS still has some rough edges compared to other flagships, and some may not enjoy the speaker.

So in the big picture, the Poco F8 Ultra brings flagship-level performance, excellent battery life, solid cameras with real optical zoom, and impressively rich audio for the price range. If you want a phone that checks almost every box without spending much more than mid-tier flagship money, this is a compelling option. If you care most about display refinement or the absolute best thermals under extended gaming, you might still find stronger alternatives further up the price ladder.
