The Local Pizza House in Ambalangoda - Monello Pizza...

in Steem Sri Lanka7 months ago
In my time of inactive, something new had been introduced to our community, Steem Atlas. According to our embassador, it has been there some time. So today, I'm kickstarting with Steem Atlas.

As we corporate people, Dasuni & I are limited to meet on weekends. We usually go to try food from new shops. Even when we go shopping in different area, I'd like to do some research and find best restaurants around a select one and have an experience. Among those places, I chose to start with a place in my home town.

Unlike making rice, kottu, or noodles, making pizza and sustaining that kind of a restaurant is hard. With mega franchises like Pizza Hut & Dominos opens their branches like popping mushrooms, it's hard to attract customers to a restaurant like this. But Monello Pizza took the challenge and succeeded.

Monello Pizza is a concept of one of the oldboys of our school. He had learnt about pizza making in his time at hotel school. With the help of some overseas friends of him, he took the risk to open their first outlet in Ambalangoda where there are Pizza Hut, Dominos and KFC outlets were already available.

So he approached this quest in a unique manner. His pizzas were different. It had different flavors, not like copy pasting Pizza Hut things and give it to a cheaper prize. He built a different line of pizza. Also he introduced new things like Pot Pizza and Rameon Pizza so people can have mix cultural vibe in food. Also, they conducted " a Pizza Dansala" for the 1st time in Sri Lanka.

I wanted to go to Monello Pizza, but buy1get1 offers in Pizza hut took me away. But there was a good Valentine offer at Monello Pizza and we though of trying it.

A large pizza of preference, a chicken calzone with 2 mojitos were offered for Rs. 3500 and it was quite a deal. We chose a Veggie Pizza as Dasuni doesn't like meat items that much. Also, we were given a teddy as a valentine gift..

Talking about the food, it was the first time I tried thin crust pizza and then I realized I was caught up in eating the bread of Pizza Hut pizzas. Even though the bread wasn't that spongy, the addition of sheer amount of veggies and olives added an extra layer of fresh tastes into our mouths.

Chicken calzone is like a lavariya in a good way. It was juicy and the flavors of veggies were perfectly infused with meat to make a great combination.

When our mouths land into a kochchi, there was our Mojitos to save the day. It wasn't just Sprite with mint leaves. It was well made and we enjoyed every bit of it.

The interior of the restaurants with black & yellow theme was well designed with various artifacts. The bicycle hung on the wall will surely catch everyone's eye. So does the swing and the masks on the wall, adds the cultural touch of Ambalangoda area. It is colorful than any other pizza shops.

When we finished the meal, I was very full as I had to eat most of the Chicken calzone. I came out of the restaurant saying them the food was great and it was really great. For sure the artificial flavors that we are looking were not there but the frash tastes outperformed it all.
