RE: How did you celebrate BREXIT?? I bought some silver....

As I said before: you are in the transition period until the end of the year. You still have access to the single market, the customs union. You still pay towards the EU. Then only difference is you don't have a vote, no representation in EU parliament. Meanwhile for those of us Brits who live in other parts of the EU... today I received official notice that I have lost my right to vote in the upcoming local elections. The first time since we have moved here that we won't be able to participate in electing our council: the right removed thanks to Brexit. That, apparently, is democracy

Sort:

So then could you not apply to become a French citizen? Just as if I were to go live/work in Australia/USA/INDIA/NEW ZEALAND, or any of the other 168 countries not in the EU, on a visa, I too would not have any rights to decide who is on the council.

We are applying (but obviously didn't have to before). Given as we pay our local (and national) taxes you'd kind of hope there would be "no taxation without representation" but hey!

It takes 2-3 years to apply for citizenship (and costs a fair bit of cash too). And it isn't guaranteed we'd be accepted (even though we have been granted permission to stay and work here)

It is more about having something taken away from you.

Before you go to live somewhere you should check out what you need to do to ensure you can live and work somewhere and what rights you have when you get there. Which we did 12 years ago when we moved here. Then we have those rights taken away (and went through months and months anxiety as to whether we would meet the criteria for staying after brexit).
