How did you celebrate BREXIT?? I bought some silver....
Can you believe that on February the 1st, the world did NOT end!! You see, the UK officially left the European Union on the 31st of January this year, and the world kept spinning (if you're not a flat earther), the sun continued to rise and set (once again flat earther, sorry) and the air remained breathable (just)...... The doom-and-gloom scare mongers, that feared the worst were not happy with the result of the referendum, and assured us all that the end was nigh and to prepare for the coming apocalypse!! I'm still waiting.
To mark this monumental occasion, the UK treasury backed by the Royal Mint, released a commemorative 50 pence coin (£0.50) to celebrate.
As you can imagine the demand to get your hands on these coins has been phenomenal, and getting your hands on the silver Proof versions was even harder. Well lucky for me, I was an early bird and managed to secure 2, even though I ordered 3, and they have finally arrived:
Well after a very long wait, they finally arrived. As I said earlier, I ordered 3, but received 2 due to the overwhelming demand.
First impressions as a stacker and coin collector.
The Royal Mint has done a mighty fine job on this coin. It arrived in their usual cardboard, protective sleeve, but unlike their other coins eg- gruffalo, Paddington bear, Peter Rabbit.... This coins sleave is textured and done to a much higher standard.
Even the presentation of these coins is of a better standard than I expected. They came in a very nice, durable and fancy box that has a great feel to it. Simple, black, with the RM logo on it is a nice touch an probably one of the nicest boxes I've received from them.
The booklets and CoA are on a good quality, thick paper and just add to that extra standard the RM has tried to give this coin. Unfortunately for me, the CoA numbers are nothing special, so will not add to any possible resale value, but I do t think I'll be selling these any time soon.
The proof(like) finish on these silver coins is of a standard I'd expect. I've gone over the coins and both look pretty flawless. Even the capsules the coins have arrived in are NOT the big-standard one the RM are always using. They are thicker, heavier and offer better protection that their normal thin, cheap plastic ones.
Over all, I'd say WELL DONE Royal Mint, on a good job. I suppose you really did need to go above and beyond on these, as it marks a change in the politics and direction our country is now heading in. I'm sure these coins will become very sought after in years to come becausee of the occasion they now represent and marked.

I didn't particularly do much when we left. Just a normal day, carry on as usual.
I was buying coins during the Brexit year, as usual. Those are nice, simple, clean designs of a coin, and I like the packaging which likewise the same and gives the feeling of elegance. Great acquisition, dude! Thanks for sharing!
Have a beautiful day, @welshstacker, and take care 🥰🌺🤙
The two that you got look awesome @welshstacker!!! I would have a hard time letting go of these as well!!
I didn't think Brexit was ever going to happen, it took forever.....
As I said before: you are in the transition period until the end of the year. You still have access to the single market, the customs union. You still pay towards the EU. Then only difference is you don't have a vote, no representation in EU parliament. Meanwhile for those of us Brits who live in other parts of the EU... today I received official notice that I have lost my right to vote in the upcoming local elections. The first time since we have moved here that we won't be able to participate in electing our council: the right removed thanks to Brexit. That, apparently, is democracy
So then could you not apply to become a French citizen? Just as if I were to go live/work in Australia/USA/INDIA/NEW ZEALAND, or any of the other 168 countries not in the EU, on a visa, I too would not have any rights to decide who is on the council.
We are applying (but obviously didn't have to before). Given as we pay our local (and national) taxes you'd kind of hope there would be "no taxation without representation" but hey!
It takes 2-3 years to apply for citizenship (and costs a fair bit of cash too). And it isn't guaranteed we'd be accepted (even though we have been granted permission to stay and work here)
It is more about having something taken away from you.
Before you go to live somewhere you should check out what you need to do to ensure you can live and work somewhere and what rights you have when you get there. Which we did 12 years ago when we moved here. Then we have those rights taken away (and went through months and months anxiety as to whether we would meet the criteria for staying after brexit).
