New contest Week 92// Let's do it...Do It Yourself||Craft, Creativity, Drawing, origami, DIY, Recycling and more|| drafting and sewing a skirt|| 31/01/2026
Hello steemians;
So i am participating in this contest and i will be sharing step by step pattern of how i sew this skirt right here pictured below
So the tools i used to carry out this project are:
- Sewing machine
- Chalk
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Iron
- ruler

So before i got to this point, i first started with placing my my fabric on a plain, cleared and clean surface like a table, but i mine was on the floor because my table isn't big enough to contain the fabric, so i normally do my cutting on the floor making sure the place I'm using is cleared and clean before use.
So i placed the fabric on the floor and then started taking measurements of cutting by marking them on the fabric and then cut according to the person's measurements and markings i did.
After cutting the back and front, i then used the front and back material i cut, placed them on a lining fabric and cut the lining the exact size and shape as the main fabric.

After cutting, i started sewing the lining to the main fabric .
So now the reason i put lining in the cloth was;
- to provide thickness the cloth.
- to use the lining and turn the main fabric by
the edge. - to save stress and time of weaving the clothe.
- To avoid the removal of ropes in the inside giving it a proper finishing from the inside.

After turning the main fabric with lining it, it looked like this.
As seen in the picture after turning it, i gave it a proper iron for the fabric to relax and be straight
If not it would and been squeezed.
- as seen in the pictures the front pieces isn't the same with the back.
The first picture is the front while the second is the back, i didn't cut both sides equal to bring out the beauty and style.
After that, i then joined the sides i.e joining the front and back together from the sides i.e from the waist down
but i marked out the measurements from the sides
Like;
- i marked the size of her waist from the measurements i took
- i marked the size of her hips too
And then join the marking together i.e the waist and the hips and got my curved shape.
Then i formed a waist band for the waist of the clothe and then sew it round the waist rejoin after sewing one part of the sides.

I then joined the other side half way from down to half way stoped around the hips region.
Now the reason i did this was because i wanted to put zip by the side instead of the back.
The reasons for print zips in skirts are:
- to enable the person wear her skirt freely
- to provide perfect shaping, fitting and curving
as a lady.

After that, i gave it proper ironing.
And that's how i got to finish my customers skirt.
Hope you like my concept.
