Paper Wasp on the Wild Grass
Hello everyone! It's been great to get in touch again with such a sting insect. Yep! Paper wasp, a common wasp that used to be seen flying in the bush. It appears this wasp gets its name from the paper-like material that it constructs the nest with. It is also recognized as an umbrella wasp, referring to the shape of its nest. In a certain situation, the paper wasp is usually a non-aggressive stinging insect, so we don't have to worry about the sting. The paper wasp or umbrella wasp, as you may call it, is considered a nationwide distribution species, making it better known than other wasps. Like other wasps, the paper wasp is semi-social, existing in small colonies but without a true worker caste. The adult paper wasps are mostly predators on caterpillars by carrying the prey back to the nest and feeding them to the developing larvae.
