Yarrow Plume - Gillmeria pallidactyla

in Beauty of Creativity7 days ago

Yarrow Plume (Gillmeria pallidactyla) is named for its slim, feathery wings, which they hold out almost at right angles to the body when at rest. This make this moth twiggy and un-moth-like; it also makes it rather feeble flier. The one I found is a tiny plume moth that was quite active during daylight which made me take time to take the photos. It can fly and the airfoils of the wings are wider than they first appear because they are furled closed at rest. Like I used to do when I dealt with little stuff, I managed to use macro device to get its detail which also took me some time to engage myself with focus. After several attempts, I was finally able to get a few photos of this unique and beautiful insect. When it got right to my lens, I don't mind taking a couple of shots even it is generally unattracted by the naked eyes but thru macro, it will be different. Plume moths might be less fast and furious, but their wing shapes are perfectly adequate for a life of fluttering in the herbage, woodland edge or meadowland hedge.
