A Jewel in My Backyard: The Great Mormon Butterfly | 10% for beautycreativity

Hello Community friends and Nature lovers,

Hope every one is good and healthy.

A quick flash of bright blue and deep black caught my attention this morning. The insect was moving fast over the clover in my lawn. It was a Great Mormon butterfly, Papilio polytes.

This large, fancy visitor had graced my simple yard. These elegant butterflies are common in many parts of Asia. Seeing one so close always feels like a very special thing.

The males look especially sharp and striking. They have deep black wings with patches that shine electric blue. Females are also beautiful, but their color pattern is often more subdued.

They sometimes copy the toxic Common Rose butterfly. This helps them scare away birds that might try to eat them. Today’s visitor was certainly a male. He looked like a dazzling jewel against the plain green grass.

His presence reminds me that nature exists everywhere. This is true even in neat, trimmed city neighborhoods. I love that my lawn has native plants and a few wild blooms. This mixed space gives food and temporary shelter for creatures like him.

I watched the butterfly fly easily for a few moments. I silently appreciated its speed and bright colors. It soon danced away toward the next yard. The brief visit left me smiling and full of wonder at the wild world.
