RE: Napoleons letzte Schlacht
24 more balls of wool
Wow! In my opinion, this is a big farm. I can't imagine how you can manage it without hired workers. I understand that the hay is harvested by machinery, you probably buy the feed, not grow it, but feeding 25 hungry mouths every day and cleaning up after them is a challenge. Even if there are two of you.
You're right, the weather isn't conducive to sitting at the computer right now. We want to spend more time outside. But sometimes there are cloudy and rainy days. They're perfect for writing a post "What's Happened to Me in a Month." 😄
Yes, especially in winter a herd of this size was quite a challenge (to be honest, it’s actually two herds at two locations: the ewes and the rams are kept separately). Now the work is becoming less because the animals are slowly starting to graze.
This “hobby” is also gradually becoming a question of cost. We harvested half of the pasture ourselves. Of course we still had to pay the helping farmers and their machines. We harvested four bales. But I had to buy a lot of additional hay, because the sheep have eaten 30 bales so far… 🫣
But you know what? The animals’ affection and the calming atmosphere when spending time with them make up for everything! Even if this year there won’t be any lambs I could be telling you about in a month… 😉
