few months and a few Excel spreadsheets

Totally unrelated, but once we maintained an Excel sheet for a whole year to track our monthly groceries. We created subgroups for luxury items, utilities, school expenses, gifts, etc. Surprisingly, it always extended our budget, leaving us wondering where the extra expenses came from. Eventually, we concluded that it might be the blessings ('barakat') that come with kindness towards guests and, of course, through charity, no matter how small it may seem.

And from there onwards we stopped maintaining those sheets and went with the flow. It doesn't mean that we spend extravagantly. We still spend very carefully, but we are not worried all the time.
