SLC-S31/W2-“Creative Interpretation| The Phrase (Almost There)”
Create a piece inspired by the phrase “Almost There.” Abdul is the type of individual who usually works hard; in the state he was a resident of Lagos. Earlier in the morning, he woke up in order to beat the Lagos traffic because he always dreams big—that one day he will complete the task so that he can be a successful human, like other successful people. When he reads their stories in magazines, like that puff-puff seller who used to sell for him when working in a site as a bricklayer, sometimes he comes home feeling ashamed and sad that he doesn't have anything to eat, to the extent that he would sleep on an empty stomach. He looks forward to his final destination and believes that he will soon arrive through the appropriate plans he has set to accomplish the task. Abdul looks away from anything that can cause distractions so that it will not prevent him from arriving in time. Abdul has a strong belief with prayer, and if he doesn't relent, he will soon arrive at his final destination to achieve his goal. The word of encouragement he received from friends and family serves as an inspiration that he is close to completing his mission. He always likes to say in his mind that when there is life, there is hope. Is your interpretation positive, negative, or mixed? Explain. Yes, of course, the interpretation is positive, because it's the kind of hope that we are close to attaining progress and miracles will soon happen in our lives. Although it's not easy to wait, because if we try and yet our plan is accomplished, such things can discourage us, and if such a person is not strong enough, it will reverse us back because those who quit will never be winners. "Almost there" is used as a motivating factor, which keeps us going, especially when things are tough. If the goal takes too long, the term "almost there" can be frustrating to the extent that such task would not be finished. What does “almost” teach about patience or persistence? Patience can be delays, and I don't see it as punishment because if the goal arrives early, we may not have proper planning to achieve our goal or a way to handle it. Patience plays an important role in the term 'almost there' because it slows the process because, at the end of the day, it would eventually be rewarding. "Almost there" allows us to make progress because it enables us to close our goal even without achieving it immediately. Patience is good because it is a kind of instrument that works for us to remain hopeful and calm even when the outcomes have not yet happened. Whereas, in persistence, the term almost indicates that all our efforts are not wasted, which shows that we are on the right track. Failure is temporary, so as goal getters, we must manage the challenges, and mistakes should serve as feedback to address the strategies we want to use to accomplish our target goals. Persistent is the key that help us keep pushing for the goal we have been waiting for a long time. Share a personal or imagined scenario that connects to your piece I always dream of doing my MSc, but I believe that it's not yet time. So I keep pushing and continue to endure the pain because one day this goal will be achieved with patience and efforts. I believe that I will arrive soon because there are some steps I am taking to be rewarded at the end of the day. The financial challenge is something that hinders the process, but I know that all this will be temporary and it will not continue this way. Although, when I was in Kano state, I had it in my mind to do my MSc program, but COVID-19 as well as long strikes by those institutions affected the process. I have a strong determination that if I am still alive on this earth, I will not relent until I achieve what I have dreamed of for a long time. I invite
