What does it mean to "Dare To Be Different"

Dare to be different simply means not being the same with others. It’s choosing to not share similar beliefs, ideas and way of thinking or doing things with others especially when it conflicts with one’s belief or perspective.

Dare to be different is choosing to maintain ones stand when the chips are down even if it would cause a loss or discomfort. Even if we would be seen as weird and uncompromising.

It’s choosing not to go with the popular demand or the route everyone one else takes. It’s choosing not to go with the flow or rhythm that everyone one else chooses to go with. It’s choosing to maintain one’s voice and be different. It’s going against popular opinion or what’s readily acceptable by all.

That everyone is doing something doesn’t make it right. It’s choosing to not do what everyone one is doing when they are obviously doing the wrong thing.

Yes, in so many occasions, time and places. In public and private living, in some occasions as occasion demands, I’ve had to dare to be different. I have had to maintain my stand and I am going to share the most recent experience even though it may be a bit too personal but it is okay. It’s in my past and I’ve moved on.

So I met this man and we were all loved up or so I thought and we were looking to be married. Well, just when I thought we gat it all working out, uncle came up with the most bizzare thing I’ve heard personally all my life.

It may not be bizzare to a lot of people as it seem to be the inthing now in most relationships. First, he asked that I get pregnant for him before marriage and I said I won’t do that. It was against my faith as a believer. He raised that topic twice and I objected thrice. I was never going to compromise my beliefs because of marriage.

After he saw I was adamant, he shifted to saying that we must have sex before marriage. Well, most people do that right during dating and all. So it’s not a biggie, is it?

Well, I want my marriage bed to be undefiled. I still maintained my stand. Uncle kept insisting and pushing that at a point, it seemed to be only sex that we talked about. I was already getting fed up hoping he would come around. News flash. He didn’t.

Did you maintain your stand to the end by being different or you joined others eventually?

I maintained my stand dearest reader. I wasn’t about to throw my pearls to the swine. Someone who would love you genuinely will and wouldn’t have to attach bizzare conditions to them. And we do not have to bend our core beliefs and life standards because we want to make someone happy.

They will end up leaving you broken without even recognizing the sacrifices of blending you did. You will end up loosing yourself and still be filled with regret as to why you didn’t take your stand. I refused to join the band wagon. I chose to be different and I stood my ground.

Do you think daring to be different is always worth it?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. In my case, I lost the relationship but had my dignity intact. Sometimes you get attacked for daring to be different and seen as the loser or worse but at the end, it’s all worth it that we have something to stand for.

When we take our stand and succeed into prominence, people tend to look up to us and learn from our experiences and also dare to make a difference by taking their stand when situations occur. But outside that, when we are hidden and no one knows the struggles of daring to be different, It doesn’t seem to be worth it but if it’s only to pacify our conscience knowing that we did something right, then its worth daring to be different.
