CAN Meeting and Ratification of Old Executives

Seasons greetings to all the Steemians. We keep the consistency flowing. Today I am here again to share how it all went altogether.

Today, just like any other day, came with unplanned and planned engagements. Being that I was completely worn out with crusade, music concerts and being on the road through the weekend, I had planned to go for only one meeting today. These days, I spent the morning sleeping, no more waking up early to prepare my boy for school, making it easier to rest more, therefore, the only event I was preparing for was a church meeting by 5pm, but then the CAN meeting notice came late and I had to include it in my schedule today.

Rising from the bed about 8am, I was told to help and pick vegetables (mkpa) for soup. While on it, I received a call from a colleague of mine notifying me for an ecumenical meeting of the Christian Association of Nigeria Uyo Local government chapter, Akwa Ibom. It was about the election of new leaders making it impossible not to go. It was scheduled for 1pm and I had to continue with what I was doing.

By 12:45pm I was ready to leave the house for the meeting at number 3 Samson Udoidiong Drive ECWA Church of Abak Road in Uyo. Before 2pm we were at the venue. It was there we realized that the meeting was fixed for 3pm, meaning that we had to wait until that time. I used that opportunity to make new friends and get to know leaders and delegates from on blocks that form the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

About 3pm, the state officers drove in for the meeting to commence. To our greatest surprise, the new National constitution of CAN as amended allows the current executive to run for a 5 year tenure which we were not aware of. It was the State CAN Secretary who took to explaining to all the delegates who did not only waste their time but added their resources also. But as a Christian, you have to forgive and move on. They apologized for any inconveniences with an extension for the old executive to continue for the next 365 days in office before election will be conducted. The executive members were called out for Ratification and prayers.

I left the venue with others at about 5:17pm and I went for the church meeting at Presbyterian Church of Nigeria Uyo, No. 73 Wellington Bassey Way Uyo. I was late already but being that I had informed my boss about my movement, it wasn't an issue. The meeting in the church was about the school and management board, preparing for the next term in the matter of weeks away. Deliberations were going well and decisions were taken before we closed at 7:19pm.

While I was going home I saw a sister from my community, and we had to exchange pleasantries. It's been a long time since we last met. We talked and told each other when we're going for Christmas; we took a selfie before going separate ways and i went hope, had my dinner to rest as there was no electricity.

I learned much yesterday, especially in the CAN elections which turned out to be a tenure of continuity. When the CAN Secretary explained that even though the executives were elected under the former constitution that gives a two term of 6 years, the amended constitution which supersedes the old one gives the elected leaders a one time tenure that runs for 5 years. Everyone left satisfied.
