Do you agree that being honest is costly?

Yes I do! Being honest is costly in two ways: For an individual to decide to be honest in a world full of deception, lies, corruption and so on, you must be ready to stand alone. Only very few are honest in real sense because I will not say that they are not honest people (of course those who are honest bear so much risk) which is costly even to their lives.

Honesty is being truthful instead of mendacious, and honesty is born out of personal belief, be it religious or otherwise. I heard a story of how a certain politician was killed because he was honest to his principal. Those who murdered him, did it to cover their tracks that were opened and the man told them “count me out” due to his honesty, it cost him his life.

The second perspective is when you're honestly dealing with others, be it relationships. For instance, your wife is to be prosecuted for her offense and your husband is in place to say whether she's due to be punished or not. It is costly with or without the parties involved being close people. The question is can you give your wife out in the public or your son to be punished? For you to take such a decision to let them know that the law must take it cause is where honesty becomes even more costly.

Has it ever caused some e.g pain or regret?

It does cost pain but one must say the truth. Remember the popular saying “Truth is bitter, truth hurts”. It may pain you to see the person who felt you should have helped cover up being killed but you must do the right things like the Bible supports in Philippians 4:8

>Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things.

This was Paul's encouragement to his followers in Philippians, even when it was his honesty to the gospel that put him into prison, he didn't tell be be dishonest. Even if it means go to prison be honest

For me, honesty could be painful but there is nothing to regret about it if you're doing this right.

Can you be honest without hurting people's feelings?

Honesty in the first place hurts, so there is no way I can be honest without hurting anyone except the party that chose not to be hurt. Honesty is programmed to hurt our feelings and emotions because we will always believe that we are right, but Mr. honest will tell you “look you are wrong”. Rising as the only to challenge your boss over his actions when others are clapping for him is enough wound in his flesh. You will see why I said earlier that honesty is costly in two ways. The person being honest and the party he is proving his honesty to.

There are secret meetings where honest people are not informed to be involved because they will always be seen as opposition.

Have you ever told a lie to protect someone?

Yes! These days, my big brothers will do certain things in the house and ask you to cover up for them and you must do something else loads of beatings come to you when your parents are not at home. We grew up to practice the same. I have taken permissions in class for friends who did send to do so just to save them from failure. But is it normal to morality? Of course not!

Is it okay to keep a secret if it could hurt someone

This is a big question. If God is not happy about that, let it hurt for honesty is meant to hurt. For me there is no need to keep secrets, especially in a relationship. What you conceal today will.come back tomorrow for nothing is hidden under the sun.

Finally, I wished to appreciate @sahmie for this moral contest which affects every fabric of our lives, from home to where we are working and in our relationship to one another.

Honesty is an earthly opposition but heavenly friendly. Once you are honest, be ready to pay the price but it will hurt the both of you.
