The level of absence of right in my countrysteemCreated with Sketch.

in Steem4Nigerialast year

I'm so glad to be part of this wonderful contest organized by @josepha. This is a very vital topic that has been presented to us and it's also of great interest to me because whether I like it or not I am a citizen of my country and whatever affects my country also affects me. Now over to the main the discussion of the day.

How is the level of human rights in your place?

Human rights are basic or fundamental privileges that one should enjoy as a citizen. But there are instances where one may feel he/she is been deprived of his/her rights.

I'm a Nigerian by birth and by every other means that could make me Nigerian. Over here in Nigeria, we have so much grounds to cover when it comes to the level of protection of human rights. There have been series of cases of human rights violation in my country not just by ordinary citizens but also by law enforcement agencies.

Do you think you are currently enjoying your fundamental human rights as a citizen of your country? Tell us how you have been enjoying it.

Honestly I would say that I'm only enjoying my fundamental human rights to some extent but not fully. For example, I can talk whenever I want to and wherever I want to. But if I make any public speech that is contrary to certain political leaders I may be arrested. But however, as long as you do not take advantage of your rights you can enjoy them.

Do you have any such story where your rights were trampled? It doesn't have to be about you. Just tell us a case where someone had their rights trampled on by someone who should have upheld them.

There was a time when in my country, (year 2020 to be precised) youths had to protest due to police brutality. The protest was called end sars. During this protest, there was a lot of attack by the military on the lives of citizens. Many lives were lost. Our rights were trampled on, we lost our right to freedom of speech, right to movement and others.

CONCLUSION

No nation can thrive without protecting the fundamental rights of it's citizens. It is the primary duty of every government to make sure that these rights are well preserved. However on the part of the citizens we have to know that these rights are ours to enjoy but then they can be abused. So as much as possible try not to abuse your rights.
