The early hours of my morning was intense. I normally wake up to pray by 4am, but today, I heard my mother and brother talking in loud tones as my system booted. My younger brother has chanced upon a snake in our compound as he stepped out of the house. He hurriedly come back in to take a cutlass and wake his friend. This noise was what brought me out of my room.
It has been over 5 years we last saw a snake in the compound so you can imagine the shock at seeing one early this morning.
Thankfully we killed it and calm returned. I went back to my prayers and continued my activities for the morning.

I had given my shoes and flat slippers to a shoe repairer who had recently opened shop to fix. By the time I got it back, I only wore the shoe once and it got bad, for the same reason I gave him to fix earlier. I had complained bitterly to him when I saw him. Since i would be needing my flats for walkabout, I needed to pay him a visit again, but this time, I’m not paying a dime.

At the shoe makers shop

Once the shoe maker saw me, he started making up excuses how that he wasn’t the one who worked on my shoes but his colleague and how that his colleague has done nonsense and has traveled leaving work for him. I didn’t reply, but calmly dropped my shoes there and sat down. Once he realized I meant business, he began fixing the issue.
I picked up my slipper and told him I’d be back in the evening for my shoe. A customer had made an order and I was going shoe shopping for her.
I had called my vendor ahead of time and selected what I wanted , I just needed to pick it up.

At the shoe shop

Heading back home, I decided to take a walk. It was the most calming experience, seeing people quietly working to make money without noise, it felt like a Saturday.
My quiet reflections were about to be broken by the sight i would meet ahead.
This is an adjoining bridge erected over a supposed gutter connecting worldbank market to ideal suite roundabout.

This is the first sight that greets your eye on both sides as you try to crossover into the market. Every dry season, this gutter gets dry and becomes a dumping ground for dirt and all sorts of market produce.
The stench is overwhelming, with big rats the size of a person’s upper body going about their business yet the market authorities don’t see it as priority to clean up. Once the rains come in full swing, they’ll know what they’ve done to themselves.

I head home to get some much needed sleep and brain reconfiguration. The day is still young, yet already old.
