| SLC-S29/W1—“Thinking and Ideas!| If You Were in Charge!”
Hello and good day to you, Steemians. I extend my gratitude to @ninapenda for organizing this amazing contest, and I promise to try my best to follow all the guidelines of this contest. Many of us have always dreamt of being in charge of a particular thing, event, or place, myself included, and today I have the spotlight to talk about it, and here is my entry.
If you were given full authority for one year in your community or country, what is the first issue you would address? |
|---|
If I were given full authority for one year in my community or country, Nigeria, the first issue I would address is the state of healthcare infrastructure and services, particularly in rural and underserved areas. As a student nurse, i have traveled to many areas and communities in Nigeria and I've seen the devastating impact of inadequate healthcare on individuals, families, and communities, most patients are not cared for due to lack of health equipment and patient who deserved to be admitted at the hospital due to the severity of their health problems are not given the privilege because of insufficient space in the ward and sometimes i noticed that patient hesitate coming to the hospital because the wont feel comfortable due to how small and stuffy the health care center or hospital is so instead of them to suffocate in the hospital the will rather stay at home where the can get comfort, and due to lack of funds unskilled workers are employed to render services to the patients because there funds are insufficient to hire a professional worker which put the patients at risk of wrong medications and even more health chaos.
Why did you choose this issue over others? |
|---|
I chose this issue over others because healthcare is a fundamental human right, and its impact is felt across all aspects of society. A healthy population is more productive, contributes to economic growth, and is better equipped to break the cycle of poverty. Nigeria's healthcare system faces significant challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, a shortage of skilled personnel, and limited access to essential services, especially in rural areas, and as a good leader in Nigeria, it will be a pleasure to renovate and help equip the healthcare system for a good and healthy living.
What is that one difficult decision you would have to make? |
|---|
The one difficult decision I would have to make is reallocating funds from other sectors to prioritize healthcare infrastructure development and personnel deployment in underserved areas. This might mean temporarily diverting funds from other important sectors (intersectoral collaboration) like education, agricultural sectors, communication sectors, or infrastructure development sectors, and even more sectors, so this is going to be very challenging because other sectors may be affected financially, especially some sectors that were already struggling with funds.
How would you explain this decision to people who disagree with you? |
|---|
To people who disagree with this decision, I would explain that investing in healthcare is investing in the nation's future. A healthy workforce is crucial for economic growth, and neglecting healthcare promotes a cycle of poverty and inequality. I would emphasize that this decision is an important decision and not a decision to be taken unseriously because it concerns the health of the people, where one sector's must come at the expense of another because one sector will not be able to carry this burden alone; other sectors must invest in human capital, which will at the end yield long-term benefits across all sectors.
Thank you.
I invite @whoknows27 @elijah247 @virtuousc to participate in this contest.

Hi @peacemike, welcome to thinking and ideas week 1
Healthcare has undoubtedly become a lifewire for all and indeed, it should be looked into with care.
So many communities do not have that accessibility and other important facilities to make their healthcare standard for the people. I hope you do well with your workers.
Thank you for your assessment ma
