Halwa Puri : My Traditional Dish Of Lahore

It is not just a food. It is a part of culture. The puri the sweet halwa and flavorful chickpeas has a awesome taste. It brings comfort and tradition in every bite.

Ingredients Required For Chickpea Curry :

Chickpea Boiled Half Kg

Onion Three Medium

Tomatoes Two Medium

Garlic Paste One Spoon

Red Chilli Powder Two Spoon

Black Pepper One Spoon

Cumin Powder One Spoon

Coriander Powder One Spoon

Garam Masala One Spoon

Salt One Spoon Or Own Taste

Turmeric Powder Half Spoon

Curd Four Spoon

Suji (Semolina) Two Cups Sugar Two Cups Ghee Two Cups Almonds Own Taste Raisins Own Taste Water One Jug

All-purpose flour (Maida) One Cup Ghee One Spoon Salt Own Taste Water Own Need

Procedure :

The First Step: Making Spicy Lahori Chana

Step 1:

I add ghee in a pan on the stove. Then I add chopped onions. I sautéed until golden. After that I added garlic paste. I fried it well. When it was cooked. I added tomatoes and let them soften. Finally I added salt, red chilli powder and turmeric. Icooked everything together until the masala was well fried.

Step 2:

When the masala is perfectly cook. I added yogurt. I cooked it until it blended nicely. At the same time I took a few boiled chickpeas. I mashed them well. I added them back into the pan. After mixing everything properly. I add the other spices.

Step 3:

I add the boil chickpeas. I mixed them well. Then I added about a glass of water. I let it cook for two to three minutes. Finally I added green chillies and finished the dish.

Making Halwa

I put a pan on fire. I add ghee in it. I added semolina. I roasted it well. Until it turned golden brown. It give a rich aroma. Then I added water along with sugar. I mixed it properly.

I cook it. It is thick. It come together nicely. It is done. I turn off the heat. I add almonds and raisins.

Making Puri

I add flour, ghee, salt and baking soda in a bowl. I made a soft dough. I let it rest for an hour. After that I made it into small dough balls.

I made it into small round balls. I lightly greasing my hands with ghee. I made shapes by hand. I fried in hot oil. Until become puffed and golden brown. My puris were ready.

It is not just a food. It is a tradition people truly enjoy. It is made on Sunday mornings, during Eid and on special occasions. The families and friends sit together and share a good time.

This dish reflects warmth, hospitality and strong family bonds guys. In our culture. Food is not just about eating. It is about connection guys. The halwa puri is a nice example.

It shows we value togetherness. We value joys and traditions. That is why halwa puri is not just a meal. It a part of Lahore’s identity.

༻꧂What memories do you personally associate with it and the price of the ingredients in steem and local currency?༻꧂

One of my favorite memories connected to this dish. It is from the time before my sister got married. Back then we used to enjoy halwa puri together almost every Sunday. She loved it so much. She would always insist. My father happily give in. We sit together. We enjoy the food. We talk for hours. It was not just about eating. It was about spending that time together. Now whenever I have halwa puri. It remember of simple and happy Sunday. Now whenever she comes back home. We order halwa puri again and enjoy it just like before.
