With us we do not admire the male peacock at all. He stands more for a big ego tripper, a kind of narcissist who can't stand anyone looks better than him.
We say:
Pauw, pauw ik ben lekker mooier dan jou
(the result is that he shows his feathers to prove he looks better.)

But he only does it during courtship to attract females, and I think he achieves his goal. How can anyone resist something as beautiful as that plumage. Even we humans admire something like that.
