Among these, a popular trend has emerged: using padlocks to symbolize—or perhaps predict—that the love of a couple who leaves their lock on the Pont des Arts in Paris or at N Seoul Tower in South Korea will remain safe, strong, and shielded from the blows of fate.

The truth is, the only thing that can guarantee the survival of love is the attitude of the people involved. No matter how many locks they buy and hang on bridges or towers, if they don’t nurture and care for their love, it can wither and die.
