In his recent post “The Taxonomy of Collapse,”  Charles Hugh Smith presents 2 very similar models of how a dominant economy starts out, grows, peaks, deteriorates, and collapses.  

Collapse – Coming Next 

In his own model of the “Lifecycle of States and Empires,”  he outlines the stages from “Expansion”  to the inevitable “Collapse.” 

The stage immediately preceding the final collapse is “Stagnation.”  It is characterized by corruption, greed, and ever-growing, unsustainable debt.

Sound familiar? As Smith implies, that penultimate stage looks remarkably familiar to anyone who dares to look closely at the current condition of most developed economies across the world today.   _{(Image source)}

The End of Money – Your Money 

Essentially, any society that lives far beyond its means – any society, for instance, that creates wealth out of thin air – will eventually have to repay its colossal debt. And the only way it can do so is by debauching its currency.

– Insight from Outside –

The US is well into the penultimate “Stagnation”  stage of Smith’s model. Apart from the aforementioned corruption and out-of-control debt, the nation and its economy are being devastated by monopolies, moral decay, parasitic elites, and “irreconcilable”  political polarization. 

No Hope 

Not only is the US careening steadily towards ultimate collapse, it is also following, almost exactly, the path of destruction sketched out in the 2 models presented by Smith. Particularly that part about “debauching its currency.”  Clearly, there is no turning back from the cliff-edge.    

As the collapse accelerates and as the currency crumbles, the supposed “wealth”  of the citizens will evaporate, and their standard of living will plummet.   _{(Image source)}
