Choices! What will it be? #56

It is another beautiful privilege to be participating in @partjewell contest. Well this will actually be my first time participating in this contest. I was going through the contest I can participate in on Steemit when I came across this contest and the personality I have that I love writing, I decided to try out probably I will be among the winners.

Among all the choices listed, I will definitely be going with the classroom because it makes me remember a whole lot of things about the classroom, memories and things which I strongly believe we can learn from my post this morning. Stay tune.

Whenever we hear the word classroom, a lot actually comes to our mind ranging from the 4 corners walls or a building. But the truth actually is it is beyond that. Classroom is beyond the walls, I believe classroom is a world on its own that goes a long way in affecting the future of students positively or even negatively depending on how it is been used.

I have seen students whose life was changed due to the positive impact of the classroom upon their life and of course it is actually due to some reasons though. And not only that but also I have seen a whole lot of students whose life was affected negatively due to the negative impacts of the classroom upon their life and that one of course was due to some circumstances. For every teacher or you have students under your care, this post is for you. So without wasting time, let's dive into what I actually want to discuss.

Classroom Management Techniques

Growing up, there are some things we were not taught about in the classroom which actually affected me negatively to an extent at least my courtesy and today I will be sharing some with you. When we talk about classroom management techniques, we actually mean what are the structures what I believe can guide students to a positive interaction and experience in the classroom. Let me start with some of them.

• (1). Establishing Classroom Rules and Expectations

If you are a teacher or even a student, you need to understand that you need to establish classroom rules and expectations. What are the regulations that will help guide your students in the classroom and actually how they behave. Like they always say that when there is no law, there is actually no sin. You need to think of setting some rules and structures down which every student needs to follow.

And not only that actually but also the fact that you need to set expectations which will help the student to stay committed and focus. You can work in setting the expectation to be daily based, weekly based or even monthly based depending on that which suits you. By doing so, you will discover that you will help the student to achieve that quality knowledge and life which they need to achieve in the classroom thereby affecting their life Positively.

• (2). Effective Communication Strategies

This particular one is not only limited to the students but also to the teachers. As a teacher you need to be able to carry along your students along in the teaching patterns which I actually feel is lacking in some schools today. The issue is not you just teaching and teaching. As that is good, you must master the act of roger communication skills that will be able to allow the free flow of knowledge and Teachings to the students.

Do you know that I actually suffer from this incident growing up, I remember then. We have this particular teacher who is just so much obsessed with teaching and teaching but is not concerned about his own communication skills. At the end of most lectures, the majority of students in the classroom didn't understand what he was trying to teach. Not that the teacher does not know what he is teaching and not also that the students are so dull that they can't understand also, but the communication strategies are lacking.

You need to come to a point where you understand your students and you know the best communication skills that will work for them. In fact understand each student because at the end of the day, each student is peculiar to their own ways of understanding things. The method that will work for student A in the classroom might not work for student B. There are a whole lot of students who understand things faster and there are students who understand things slowly. In that kind of situation, you need to master diverse communication skills to still be able to pass the knowledge to one of them at their own pace and pattern of understanding.

• (3). Building Positive Relationships

In my country Nigeria, I have come to discover also that most teachers do not have a positive relationship with their students. Most of the respect given to teachers is not out of positive relationships with them but because they fear them either as a result of being canned, punished or many reasons.

Growing up, I can remember vividly that I dislike a particular subject and even that led to me failing the course just because of one reason, I was not able to develop a positive relationship with the teacher. The teacher's personality makes it quite difficult for me to develop a relationship or even like for him. Whenever he enters the classroom, I discover I always lose interest in his teaching because of his personality.

And one of the things I have discovered is when you dislike a teacher, you might end up disliking the subject also which might in turn lead you to failing that particular course or subject. So it is quite essential that every teacher develops positive relationships with their students so that the form of impacting knowledge in the classroom can be quite effective.

• (4). Conflict Resolution Strategies

I will stop here by discussing this last one. The issue also with many students in the classroom is because they most of the time have conflict issues with their classmate. Well that can't be avoided in the world of the classroom. As a teacher who wants to impact your students positively, you must come to a point whereby you develop positive strategies in resolving conflict and disagreement within your students.

By doing so, this will help to foster harmony and thereby create a conducive atmosphere for learning for all the teachers. I will love to continue mentioning more and more but let me stop here. It is very essential that every school, teachers and even students pay careful attention to the classroom management techniques so that an effective learning atmosphere can be sustained thereby leading to the life of those students being impacted positively and not negatively in the classroom.
