SLC29-W2 : Bokshi Bazar Fish Market, Bogura
ٱلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ ٱللَّٰهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
Dear friends, I hope you are all doing well. Alhamdulillah, I am also doing well by the endless mercy of Allah. Today I have come to participate in this contest. It was said to review a fish shop or fish market. So, I have come to Bakshi Market fish market in Bogura city in the northern region of Bangladesh. It is half a kilometer from Satmatha to the southeast of Bogura city. It is a small market as well as a fish market.
This market is not just a fish market; rather, it has become a large and extensive market where you can find everything from vegetables to all types of shops. Therefore, it would be wrong to call it just a fish market. People who come here only to buy fish never fail to find something else as well. So I believe that coming here to buy fish offers the added benefit of finding other items too, which is a great advantage for customers.
Moreover, this market is organized into different sections by category, with various shops in different areas. There are grocery shops in some places, vegetable shops in others, and fish shops elsewhere. This creates convenience for customers, as when they need fish, they can go to the fish market, and when they need vegetables, they can go to the vegetable shops. Since I had gone to the fish market, I took pictures of different fish shops and observed them closely. Many people, both small and large, are engaged in the fish business here.
People in the area feel very comfortable with the fish business, and because of this, they engage in trade and commerce. Most of the fish imported here come from our Jamuna River, which is a traditional river in Bangladesh. Most of the fish are taken from this river because the Jamuna River flows from Sirajganj in northern Bangladesh through Bogura and other districts. Fish are caught from these places and are available in the market here only in the morning. In the afternoon, no fish can be found here. I have discussed some fish here, taken pictures of some, and inquired about their prices.

Here, all kinds of fish, big and small, can be found. Moreover, the shopkeepers here, despite following different religions, maintain a sense of camaraderie among themselves. They sell at very reasonable prices. Some people do business alone, while others work in multiple mills. Overall, I really like this market. I have made a video to present it to you in more detail. Besides, I also took a selfie there.

✓ How often do you buy meat or fish from this establishment?
Usually, I go to the village to do my shopping, and since I have a house in the village, I do most of my shopping from there. However, for the past three to four months, my sister has come to stay with me, meaning she has taken a house here, so I occasionally come to this market for her and sometimes for myself. So, I have shopped here only about 3-4 times, and after shopping, I felt comfortable; it is a very good place.
✓ When shopping at these shops, which thing do you value the most: low price, cleanliness, or friendly service?
In this fish market, I am always willing to pay not just the price of the fish but also a fair value to the shopkeepers. The fair price is that in this fish market, the shopkeepers offer very high-quality fish and they are very good people. I compensate them fairly from a humanitarian and ethical perspective. Their service, cleanliness, and supply arrangements create a very pleasant environment. They provide excellent service to customers, offering fresh and beautifully presentable fish to them.
✓ How do you consider the prices of this place compared to other establishments in your area?
In some places, prices can vary quite a bit, but you must understand that this is a city market. As far as we know, compared to village markets, city markets tend to have slightly higher prices, and the reason is the cost here. In villages, they naturally get things at lower prices, but in cities, the rent is much higher. Because of this, the prices here are a little higher compared to other markets. If we want to go to a bigger market, we would have to pay for transportation, but here, I don’t have to pay; just walking there gets me what I need. So, I feel this is perfect for me, and for those living nearby, it’s perfect for them too.
