SEC-S10W1: "What one thing would you want to delete from the earth?"

Yeeh!!

It's a new week and a new season in the engagement challenge, who is excited?

Of course, I am excited thats why am here to share my views on the One thing I would love delete from the earth.

If you had the power to permanently delete one thing from the earth what would that be and why?

The earth was originally a very perfect place for human existence. But after a while, so many things came to exist on earth which finally resulted in the imperfect earth.

If I had the power to delete one thing from the earth it would be Flood

Flood happens when water covers the land. When the water on land is excess, it is called flooding.

Most times, the water that covers the land comes from rainfall which fills the river or ocean or dam. Other times the rainfall does not even need the river or dam is just falls directly to the land and the land usually gets flooded when there is no proper drains.

Flood has destroyed life and even properties, this is one reason why I would love to delete it out from the earth. I have also seen our flood destroyed homes and made families homeless.

Flood happens almost every year in my country because we do not have good drains system especially in the city where I live. Flood causes traffic and even makes the roads very messy.

Flooding has distrupted business activities and school activities because in this part of my country when streets are flooded, citizens are forced to stay indoors. So money and valuables are lost in the process.

I have an uncle living in the northern part of Nigeria. He has a warehouse for his business. One morning he got a shocking news that the houses around that area including his warehouse was flooded. He lost all his goods and guess what? My uncle never recovered from that loose in a long time.

How will its absence have positive impact on Society, nature and mankind? Explain?

The absence of flood on earth especially in the part of the world where I live would have a positive impact on society in the following ways:

• Agriculture will flourish better

Flooding is not good for agriculture at all. I know there are some crops that do well in riverine areas but flooding is not a part of it.

Two years ago there was flood in the major crops producing states of Nigeria. Flood destroyed alot of crops and it lead to so much increase in price of food stuffs.

Crops will do better in the absence of flooding. And I guess there won't be increase in prices of foodstuffs.

• Reduction of loss of lives, livelihood and homes

Several times on the news, we heard of how flood killed people, made some homeless and got people out of business. This is a negative impact of flood in our society.

But when there is no more flood on earth, death will be reduced, loss of properties too and even been homeless will be a history. I mean will be gone.

• Humans will no longer live in fear when ever it rains

Each time its raining, I know how people get scared especially in the riverine areas because they do not know what will happen next.

Some people don't even sleep at night when it's raining because they are scared.

Some Even run out of their homes each time its raining reason. Oh that's so sad!!

The absence of flood will take away this fear. People who no longer run out or stay away when it's raining. The society will be better when we have people worrying less and living in fear.

• Erosion will be gone

One major cause of erosion is flood. I have seen how flood destroyed lands and we call this erosion.

With flood deleted from the earth, erosion will be gone too. Erosion is a damage to our land surfaces .

• Water Contamination will be reduced

Flood has affected the health of citizens especially those living in riverine areas. Water bodies like rivers and dams has experienced contamination and this has lead to sickness, disease and death.

With flood deleted from earth all these negative vices will become a thing of the past.

What can you substitute for it that has the power to resist all subsequent devastation

Hmm in the case of flood, what I can substitute for it good drainage system with a working data analyst engineering company.

There are several companies now responsible for building high tech drainage system in the world. These companies work with data collected to construct amazing storage for collection of excess water when rains comes preventing flooding.

These companies also do the job of monitoring the weather of a particular location where they are paid to do the job, use their findings to be able to tell if there will be flood or not. This will also help to control damage or loss of lives, because people will be informed before flood takes place.

When there is a powerful working drainage system that collects excess water from lands and water bodies, I believe the issue of flood will no longer exist.
