SLC26-W1 | Street Business Diaries: Street Food and Snacks.
I am @hudamalik20 from Pakistan. I hope you all are doing great in your life. Today, I am participating in this SLC26-W1 | Street Business Diaries: Street Food and Snacks. organized by @max-pro.
01 What kind of street food is available in your city or area?
Yes, in my country and in my area there are so many types of street foods available. Whenever we go to the bazaar, town, or any busy market, we can see small food carts and stalls in front of shops. Many people run their small food business like this. Some of them bring food from home and sell it on the stall, while others cook fresh food there and serve it to customers.
In the morning time, we mostly see stalls of breakfast items like halwa puri, chana, rice with curry, roti, and different kinds of traditional dishes. During the day, other types of stalls appear. We can find chana chaat, fruit chaat, dahi bhalay, samosas, pakoras, fries, chips, and anday wala burger. Their prices are much more reasonable compared to shops, so people prefer them.

There are also sweet items and drinks available. We can see stalls of milkshakes, falooda, fruit juices, fresh lime, and even slush. Most of the time these food carts are placed outside universities, schools, and busy roads where a lot of people pass by. Many students and workers buy food from them because it is tasty, affordable, and easily available.
02 Have you eaten these foods yourself? Show their taste and price in pictures+videos.
Yes, I have bought and eaten food from these stalls many times. Their food is always tasty and also very affordable compared to shop prices. One of my most favorite foods is anday wala burger. Since my childhoods,, I love this burger and even now I often buy it from stalls near my town, university, or hospital areas.
I also really like samosas and pakoras. These snacks are very delicious and full of flavor. Recently, near my house there is a small food cart that starts in the evening and runs till late night. They sell samosas, pakoras, naan, and at night they also prepare chicken tikka and kebabs.

Today's evening, I went there and saw samosas, fries, and besan naan. But their gas was finished so the naan was not ready yet. I bought samosas instead. The price was only 30 rupees each, which is very reasonable (almost equal to 1 STEEM) . I bought two samosas, brought them home, and enjoyed them with ketchup. The taste was crispy and hot, and it felt really good to eat.
03 What did you learn about the shopkeeper's struggle?
Before I started taking pictures and videos of the stall, I first asked the owner for permission. He kindly agreed, and then I talked with him to learn about his life and struggle.
The shopkeeper’s name is Muhammad Kamran . He lives in a joint family with his parents and his own children. He has five to six children, and three of them are currently studying in a government school. He shared with me that education is very important for him, and he wants his children to continue their studies because in the past his two elder children could not study properly due to financial problems.
Before starting this food stall, he once opened a small shop in another town. Unfortunately, the shop did not run well because there were not enough customers, and the business failed. Later, he thought about shifting his work to a main chowk (busy square) of the area where many people pass by daily. He believed that snacks and BBQ items like tikka and kebabs would sell well in such a busy location.
While I was buying food from him, he also told me about the different items he sells and encouraged me to try them. I could feel that he is really working hard to establish his business. For him, this stall is not just about earning money, but also about supporting his family and ensuring that his children can continue their education.
His story showed me how much effort small vendors put into their work. They struggle with failures, but they keep trying again in better ways. For Muhammad Kamran, making his stall successful is very important for his family’s future, especially for the education of his younger children.
04 What do you think about the importance of these small street food businesses in our society?
In my opinion, these kinds of small businesses are very important for our society. Most of these stalls are set up in towns and residential areas, which makes it very easy for people living nearby. Whenever we feel like eating something, especially snacks, we can easily buy them from these stalls without going far.
These businesses are not only useful for customers but also very important for the shopkeepers and their families. In fact, nowadays in Pakistan, such small street food businesses are becoming quite successful.
Another good thing is that most of the food is prepared right in front of us. This gives us confidence that the ingredients being used are real and fresh. Many shopkeepers also try to keep their place clean and hygienic because they know the cleaner their stall isz, the more customers will be attracted to buy from them.
Street food is also very cheap and affordable compared to restaurants, hotels, or big shops. We can enjoy our favorite items at a low price, which is a big benefit for students, workers, and families.
And it's usually cooked on the spot, so it is always fresh and natural without preservatives. This makes it even more enjoyable and trustworthy. That is why I believe small street food businesses play a very important role both for society and for the livelihood of the vendors.
