School life is full of fun and togetherness, which to this day I am happy for the school that I went to. My school shapes my life and builds me up.

A moment that defines your school life

The moment that defines my school life was the moment that I finished writing my WAEC. It was a happy and, at the same time, a funny moment as my friends, loved ones, and students were outside the examination hall waiting for me to come out so they could splash water on me. It is a norm in Nigeria to pour water on anyone who just graduated.

Immediately after the examination, I came out and took pictures with my classmates, brothers, and cousins. It was a moment of joy that I celebrated and my school also celebrated me and others who wrote their examination. Such a moment still lives in my heart.

Describe how you felt as a student

While I was in junior class, I felt afraid of almost everyone, especially those who were my seniors in class. In my school, junior students dare not cross the path of a senior student, which made me so afraid of almost everyone, until I got to the senior class level, when I became bold enough.

A friend or teacher who mattered to you

Two people a teacher called Mr. Atiku and my classmate Ikechukwu inspired me a lot in my school days. My teacher is someone who always sees a fault in me and tells me to correct it. He was so kind to me, he mentored me and ensured that I passed WAEC in flying colours, which I eventually did in one sitting. Ikechukwu became my reading mate and we became tight friends working hand in hand to have the best results.

A mistake or a lesson from school life

My biggest mistake wasn't taking my academic life seriously during my early years in secondary school. I was never serious in academic activities, I was afraid to mingle with people, and doing so affected me even after leaving secondary school.

Reflect on how those school days shaped who you are now (How your school days influenced your dreams, personality, or the values you still carry with you in life.)

My school days have made me what I am today. I believe that no one becomes an independent, confident, honest, responsible, and hardworking person by just studying books in school. My school experiences have taught me a great deal.

  • The school uniform makes me realise that we are all one, we belong to one family, and there are no caste, color, or religion barriers between us.

  • The lessons I learnt were taught to me and others by giving us live examples so that we can relate and understand things much better.

  • The punishment I got in school taught me to be obedient and own up to my mistakes, and never repeat them in the future.

  • The excess work and tests in school, which made me burn the midnight candle, taught me to be dedicated and determined to finish work on time.

  • The group activities and group studies in school taught me the importance of healthy competition among friends, teammates, and the negative effects of jealousy.

Greetings,

Thank you so much for participating in the contest.

Reading this post brought back many memories of my school life. You have very simply and naturally conveyed the joys, fears, mistakes and lessons learned from your school life, which I found amazing.

You have beautifully described the incident of pouring water on your friends after the WAEC exam. This is not just a personal memory, but also a vivid picture of Nigerian culture.

You have shared with us the importance of gratitude and friendship by mentioning your teacher Mr. Atiku and friend Ikechukwu. The impact that a teacher’s right guidance and a friend’s companionship can have in school life is clearly evident here.

The place to admit your mistakes is also very commendable. Speaking frankly about your academic neglect in the beginning is really a brave act. We can learn from this too.

I found your school life education, discipline, hard work, unity and moral values great.

Overall, this is a heartwarming, realistic and educational piece. Reading the post, one can understand that school is not just a place of study, but also the most important chapter in the development of a person. Best wishes to you.
