The diary game: Ramadan Diary: Worship, Work, and Spring in the Garden
It was day 23 of Ramadan, and I had to get up very early, around 4:30 AM. Straightaway, I performed ablution and purified myself, keeping myself ready for the prayer to be offered right after the pre-dawn meal called Sehar. It is actually an obligation and a part of fasting according to the Islamic tenets.
After finishing my meal early in the morning, I went to offer the morning prayers in the nearby mosque. Many people had already occupied space, and as it was Friday, a lot of people had come to the mosque. I offered the prayers along with the community and other people of the society. After making some supplications, I headed back home.
After reciting the Quran for a while, I went to take some more rest until 9 AM. When I got up again, I started doing some household chores as a way of helping my mother. Soon after that, I went outside to water the plants and place different plants at their appropriate spots. As the spring season has arrived and winter is now over, some gardening work has also started. I planted some rose branches which my sister-in-law had sent from her maternal home a couple of days earlier.
I was a bit disappointed to see that one of my decorative plants, which I had planted in a vase and placed at the entrance of my house, had dried up a little. It might dry completely because I noticed it quite late, but I still hope that I will be able to revive it by watering it regularly and providing the required nutrients.
After finishing the gardening work, it was time to go for the afternoon prayers at the grand mosque of the village, located about one kilometre from my home in the middle of the village. It is also the time when I usually meet my friends after the prayers, and today was no different. After finishing the prayers, I stopped at one of my friend’s shops. Soon all my friends arrived, and we had a long chat there. It was a good time spent together.
Around 3:30 PM, I returned back home. I then started reading a few chapters of Indian history. As I became deeply absorbed in reading, I started feeling sleepy and soon slipped into a deep sleep without even realizing it.
At around 5 PM, my mother called me and asked me to help my brother, who had come with some pesticides as a restock for his shop. I helped him unload these items from the vehicle. Later, I spent some time outside in our garden. With almond and apricot blossoms in full bloom, it felt very pleasant to be outside enjoying the fresh vibes of the spring season and the aroma that fills the air.
Later it was time to prepare for breaking the fast, so I made some arrangements like cutting fruits and preparing the items that we usually drink and eat during Ramadan. After offering the evening prayers, I had my early dinner. Then I went to the mosque to offer the special Taraweeh prayers. After returning from the Taraweeh prayers, I went straight to sleep so that I could wake up early again the next morning.
Thank you…
