One Picture One Story

The green bunch is a burden of a secret, and this is pressed upon a background of a merciless afternoon sun. They are neither the white, plastic-yellow of the grocery store shelf fruits, but raw, starchy and heavily skinned- a bunch of Saba bananas or plantains with a future meal in sight.

The Weight of Patience
And here in this small corner of a sunny garden time is measured not by hours, but by the lengthening of green colour. It is nothing more than a plant to the common man. However to the hands that had planted the original corm months earlier than this bunch is a triumph over the elements.

It is the tales of survival, all the ribbed leaves some of which are ragged at the edges as old parchment. They have fluted gulf storms and huddled on the scorching sun to cover the delicate fingers that are sprouting in the midst. The stooping to the self-success is done in grovelling rhythmic dignity.

A Culinary Transformation
Seeing this image, it appears that the audience is on the verge of the transformation. They are cruel and emaciated now. They will shortly be collected, and either suffer one of two destinations:
The Savoury Crunch: Slice into thin slices and fried lightly to make it sound like summer.
The Sweet Softness: To be left to maturity till the peels are the bruised leopard-spotted black, then cooked in a pan until the natural sugars melt and are a syrup made of molten gold.

A banana-tree is fruitful once and imparts to a bunch of bananas everything it has before giving way to its roots in the form of the suckers.

This picture is the climax of that life cycle. It is a look at nothing before the harvest and it is evidence of silent work of nature. It also teaches us not to rush the best things in life have not been rushed but they have been fostered, experimented and foreseen.
