SCS32-W4 || Real-Life Problem Solving Challenge: Reduce Mobile Addiction

in Steem For Pakistan3 days ago (edited)

Nowadays, with increasingly sophisticated technology, mobile phones (cell phones) have become an essential part of modern life. They are used for almost everything from communication and online shopping to education and banking, entertainment, and other daily activities. While technology can make our lives much easier, smartphones can also become a major problem if not used wisely. Various activities can easily be done on a mobile phone, such as watching videos, playing games, and accessing social media or online platforms.

Mobile phone users can spend their time on these activities every day without realizing how much time has passed. Smartphones are the most widely used device for most activities, compared to laptops or computers. It is undeniable that the majority of people in Indonesia spend at least eight hours using their mobile phones every day. This is based on research from various parties and habits that can be directly observed.

How many hours do you use your mobile, and which application is used the most?

In this era of increasingly sophisticated technology, mobile phones have evolved into digital wallets, communication tools, entertainment centers, and social media platforms. Many people are more worried about losing their phones than their wallets when traveling. This demonstrates how essential mobile phones are to most people. Today, Friday (June 19, 2026), when I opened my phone to post on the Steemit platform, when I checked my screen time, I saw that I had been using it for 5 hours and 36 minutes.

This time is likely to increase as time goes on, considering the day continues until I go to bed. This duration demonstrates my personal attachment to my phone. Every morning, as soon as I wake up, checking my phone has become a common practice. I check my WhatsApp group notifications to see any important information. Next, I open my social media accounts, including the Google Chrome browser to access my Steemit account. From my screen time, I can see that Chrome is my most frequently used application, followed by WhatsApp and Facebook.

What are the reasons why you use your mobile phone so much?

My primary job, which requires the use of digital technology, is the main reason I frequently use my phone. These days, there's no job that doesn't require the use of technology, and the easiest and most practical way is to use my phone. Although this work can also be completed on other devices like laptops and computers, nearly 60 percent of my phone usage is accessing Steemit. I use it to write and post content, as well as interact with other users.

Share three physical activities that take you away from screen time

The amount of time spent staring at my phone screen has certainly impacted my life. Spending too much time on my phone can sometimes cause eye and headache pain. Because of this, I have no choice but to engage in various physical activities to alleviate the negative effects. Three physical activities that help me break free from screen dependency are: Playing with my Child, This is what I do most often when I get home from work. I work as a teacher, working 6 to 7 hours a day.

Coming home from work is the perfect time for me to forget about my phone. Watching and playing with my child in the yard is certainly enjoyable and allows me to forget about my phone for a moment. Sleeping and Worshipping: Sleeping is the best time for me to stay away from my phone. Worshipping, especially the five daily prayers, is when I draw closer to the Creator, Allah SWT. During this time, I completely avoid looking at my phone screen.

Teaching in the Classroom, as a teacher whose job is to teach in the classroom, I spend a lot of time on it. While teaching, I rarely check my phone screen unless there's an urgent matter. Furthermore, the place where I teach has a regulation limiting phone use during the teaching and learning process. This allows students and teachers to focus more on the lesson at hand. However, there are still times when phones can be used in class to look up references for material.

What benefits did you see when you reduced your screen time?

Reducing screen time has had a positive impact on me personally. I've had quality time playing with my children, improved my sleep quality, and given my eye muscles enough rest. Reducing my phone use has helped me relieve stress, prevent anxiety, and improve my mood, which can be caused by excessive exposure to information on social media.

What advice would you give to others to avoid excessive screen time and reduce mobile phone use?

Admittedly, it's incredibly difficult to break free from cell phone addiction these days. Because cell phones make it so easy for anyone to accomplish various tasks, daily screen time should still be minimized. My advice for avoiding excessive screen time and reducing cell phone use is to set daily, weekly, and even monthly phone time limits. Avoid frequent use and actively engage with family and activities that don't involve cell phone use. At home or at work, create a cell phone-free zone for all family members within the area. Finally, make it a habit to avoid using your cell phone immediately after waking up. Starting the day without using your cell phone can help you concentrate better, and don't forget to do physical activities, such as exercise.

Greetings my friend. It was really enjoyed read your post. You share your experience in a very nice way. I agree that spending too much time on mobile can affect our eyes and daily routine. Activities you mention like spend time with family and stay away from phone before sleep are very good habits. I am also trying to reduce my screen time little by little. Thanks my friend.
