SLC29-W2 // "Fried Chicken"
This is the task I'll call mission impossible because I've been eating fried crispy chicken but I don't usually know how it's been fried for it to be that crispy and golden brown. But it became possible for me when I tried. Normally, I usually feel cooking is for ladies that's why I almost left this challenge. But men do cook and they can. So why the fear? My mission impossible became possible.
Do you like fried chicken? Have you tried crispy chicken at home? Share your experience |

I like fried chicken because it's always satisfying. If I eat a chicken that's not fried, it won't be that satisfying as the fried because the fried is dried and before you can consume it, it will take a while. You'll have to chew for minutes before you can swallow. It depends on the type of mouth sha.
I enjoy the eating fried chicken that there's a bone attached to it. Eating it with just the flesh isn't as satisfying as with the bone. I've not tried crispy chicken at home before except the one I'm going to share in this post. It was today I made my first crispy chicken. All other ones have been fried all the time. So If I'm relating the experience of today's crispy chicken, I would say I went out of the moon. I enjoyed the crispy parts more than the main chicken itself.
I was like, could chicken be so sweet? The mixture and flour made it so unique and tasty. You need to taste the chicken I made with noodles. Oh God. You'll be far from home.
Make the fried chicken recipes that is shared in the course with a detailed step-by-step procedure along with images. |

Not having the full ingredients stated in the tutorials made me improvise. I purchased the ingredients available in my locality and improvised some of the ingredients given in this tutorial. To make a fried chicken recipe, you must ensure your ingredients are in check. These include
- Flour
- Groundnut oil
- Soy Sauce improvised as tomato pasta
- Ginger and Garlic powder
- Spices
- To fry a chicken, you must do the following steps. I love eating my fried chicken like that. If I mix it with anything, I won't get the main taste of the chicken. I went to the market to make purchases of these things and behold, I got the improvised ingredients used in the contest which I'll specify much later.
- After getting these things, I took them home to prepare. I unpacked all the ingredients first and contained them in a flat plate. After doing so, I washed my chicken in a basin with running water and removed all particles from the body. In then contained it in a small bowl. After containing it in this bowl, I added water and salt and mixed it very well in a different bowl and then added the chicken pieces into the mixture and marinated for 4 hours, 15 minutes.

- It was covered though. While waiting, I unpacked my sauce and contained it in a bowl and then added my red chilli pepper and mixed it well. After doing this, i contained my ginger and garlic powder in another bowl mixed with curry powder, a cube of maggi and salt and then added a few drop of water to mix. I didn't want to mix it with the sauce at once, but it will definitely get to the sauce. That's the guarantee. I added small groundnut oil to help in the coating process.

- I also contained my flour on another bowl. After waiting for hours, I took the chicken pieces and dipped first inside the powdered ingredients with water. I dipped it properly before adding it to ths sauce and then to the flour. I ensure that the body of the chicken touches the flour and the sauce especially. This is the final product in raw form

- I then used a clean pan, placed it on medium heat and then contained it with groundnut oil. The reduced heat was made to avoid burnt chicken and enhance proper frying of it.

- I used a turner to turn my chicken so that it can be fried well. Those small pieces were taken out of the oil first to avoid being burnt before the ones with big flesh. I wanted to maintain the golden colour and crispy nature.

- In most urban places on my country, this chicken is contained in a paper with a filter under it to drain so that the oil can be completely absorbed into the plate it's filtering.

List the prices of the ingredients you buy for making the recipe. (prices in your local currency and in STEEM). |
|---|
The market prices of things in my country is on the high but can be affordable no doubt. It's either high in quantity and reduced in size or nothing.
| Chicken - 2 laps | 2500 naira | 26.9 steems |
|---|---|---|
| Ginger and garlic powder - 1 sachet | 100 naira | 1.1 |
| Pepper sauce - 1 sachet | 200 naira | 2.2 |
| Chilli pepper | 100 naira | 1.1 |
| Maggi - 6 cubes | 100 naira | 1.1 |
| Groundnut oil - 2 sachets | 400 naira | 4.3 |
| Salt - 1 sachet | 150 naira | 1.6 |
| Flour 3 spoons | 250 naira | 2.7 |
| Total | 3800 | 40.9 Steems |
These are the ingredients I bought. Didn't buy baking powder because it wasn't available in my locality and on town, it's very expensive. So I had to make use of the ingredients I could afford and fry this chicken to taste.
The flour was very important to coat the chicken. Without the floor, you can get a crispy chicken. So you have ensure that the flour touches the body of the chicken, but before doing that, your sauce and ingredient are very important to help the flour stick and to give taste.
The sauce served as an aider to the flour otherwise it wouldn't have stuck well. If the chicken was just placed in the flour, it would have been somehow. The sticky and thick nature of the sauce and ingredient did justice. The ingredients added to the sauce helped in improving the chickens taste.
The marination helped improve the taste and flavour quality of the chicken so that some absorption would be done and the chicken can be tasty even though it's coated all round.
Without the ingredients, the chicken wouldn't be tasty and without the 2 groundnut sachets I bought, the chicken wouldn't have fried well and it would have been burnt because it lacks deep fry.
Crispy Chicken in Nigeria as a Continental recipe |
|---|
Crispy chicken is a continental dish and not a common dish eaten. It's usually eaten and or rare cases because we don't have that time to do the flour aspect and the likes. Just go straight 😁. Anyways, it's not really common to fry with flour except in an event or something.
