Steemit Learning Challenge-S22W1; Carpal Tunnel Syndrome"
Hello Everyone
This is @max-pro from, #Bangladesh
Made by canva
Assalamu Alaikum steemian friends hope you all are well and healthy. By God's grace I am also well. Today I came to participate in this wonderful Steemit Learning Challenge-S22W1; Carpal Tunnel Syndrome" learning challenge organized by our exercise teacher @ashkhan. Here I will answer some important questions with some practical exercises. So let's start, stay with me till the end.
What's carpal tunnel syndrome? Write in your own words after getting knowledge from the lesson post. |
---|
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) :-
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a neurological disorder in which there is pressure on the median nerve through the wrist. This is usually caused by repetitive activity, overuse or compression of the median nerve. This condition is most often seen with tasks such as typing, computer use, or excessive strain on the wrist.
Their main symptoms are |
Pain in wrists, hands and fingers.
Tingling sensation and numbness, especially at night.
Weakness of hand muscles.
These are types : |
---|
Acute | Sudden injury or trauma. |
---|---|
Chronic | slow onset, long term. |
Primary | No specific cause. |
Secondary | due to factors such as pregnancy, diabetes or trauma. |
Treatment :- It can be treated with physiotherapy and surgery if necessary. The symptoms are reduced by special exercises and proper treatment.
Exercise :-
01 | Wrist rotation. |
---|---|
02 | Prayer expands. |
03 | The median nerve glides. |
The symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome can be effectively controlled with appropriate treatment.
How would you diagnose a carpal tunnel syndrome? Any clinical investigation or assessment tests? |
---|
Some steps are followed to diagnose Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. It is usually determined based on a clinical examination and the patient's symptoms. Here are the notable methods.
Observe the patient's history and symptoms : Know what kind of pain, numbness or tingling the patient experiences. Symptoms are usually felt in the thumb, index, middle and partial ring fingers. It is important to know if the symptoms are worse at night or if they are relieved by moving the wrist.
PHYSICAL EXAMINATION |
---|
01 | Phalen's Test | The patient is asked to flex the wrists and hold for 30-60 seconds. If pain or tingling is felt, it is positive. |
---|---|---|
02 | Tinel's Sign | If light pressure or tapping on the median nerve in the wrist produces tingling or pain, it is positive. |
03 | Compression Test | See if pressure on the wrist worsens the symptoms. |
EMG, physical examination should be done as tests to confirm the diagnosis. Ultrasound as an imaging test that looks at the condition of the carpal tunnel and nerves. MRI helps diagnose nerve conditions in more complex cases.
If carpal tunnel syndrome is suspected, an orthopedic specialist or neurologist should be consulted. Appropriate tests and treatment can be done as per their advice.
Try to practice at least 3 exercises that you have learned from the lesson. Share images, gifs or videos while practicing preferably gifs or videos. |
---|
01 | Wrist Rotation Exercises |
---|
- Wrist rotation exercise is a simple and effective exercise in which the wrist is rotated to one side or clockwise and counterclockwise. It improves wrist joint mobility, increases muscle strength, reduces pain and helps relieve symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. It is important to keep the shoulders and arms relaxed while exercising.
02 | Arm Prayer Stretch Exercise |
---|
- The arm prayer stretch exercise involves keeping the palms together and pressing them down slowly in a prayer pose. It stretches the arm and wrist muscles, reduces tension and relieves pain. It is important to avoid stress during exercise that increases pain.
03 | Median Nerve Glides Exercise |
---|
- Median nerve glides are an exercise in which the hands and fingers are placed in different positions to slowly stretch and contract the median nerve. It improves nerve mobility, reduces symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome and helps restore normal nerve function.
Share your review after performing these exercises either on yourself, healthy individual or patient. |
---|
As my personal review I have applied the exercises mentioned for carpal tunnel syndrome (wrist rotations, arm prayer stretches and median nerve glides) on myself.
Wrist Rotation Exercise : It is easy and comfortable. After doing this for a few minutes I felt a slight relaxation in the wrist joint. There was no pain or discomfort.
Arm Prayer Stretch : After placing the hands in the prayer posture, slowly press down and feel the tension. It helps to stretch the hand and wrist muscles. There was mild tension while exercising, but it was comfortable.
Median Nerve Glides : This exercise should be done slowly. Felt slight relaxation and tension in the movement of the nerve. It seems quite effective and comfortable.
So these exercises are easy to do and effective in relieving symptoms. I plan to continue these daily as they help relax muscles and maintain nerve function.
Finally I would like to say that carpal tunnel syndrome is a common neurological problem that is mainly caused by repetitive stress or nerve compression of the wrist. Its symptoms can be controlled with proper diagnosis and treatment. Physical therapy, such as wrist rotation, arm flexion stretches, and median nerve glides exercises, can be effective in relieving symptoms. Practicing these exercises regularly can restore hand function and ease daily life.
So I am Inviting my lovely Steemian friends @solaymann, @kouba01, @ulfatulrahmah to Participate in this Competition.

Thank you for understanding the lesson and sharing your assignment; I hope that you will enjoy this week's lesson and try to implement it in your life if you see any such case.
Observations
Task 1 (3/3)
You have shared a great knowledge about carpal tunnel syndrome, its symptoms, cause, and it's types. There are 4 types that I explained in the lesson. Acute, chronic, primary and secondary. That's good you explain the things precisely and easy to read. I appreciate your effort.
Task 2 (2.8/3)
In the second question, you tell us about how you have to assess a patient by doing physical examination, history taking, special tests and investigations. The another best test for investigations is NCS, nerve conduction study test to assess nerve conduction. Great.
Task 3 (4/4)
You try the wrist rotations, median nerve glides and arm prayer stretch exercises. You did the wrist rotations, median nerve glides, arm prayer stretch correctly. Always remember to apply heat pack before performing exercises to relax the muscles and reduce stiffness. I appreciate your efforts.
Overall you made a great attempt to answer all the questions. I appreciate your efforts. But next time try to avoid the above written suggestions. Keep learning and try to implement your knowledge to the people suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome or any type of wrist. Thank you.
Thank you very much for observing my post and giving such a valuable review.
