Assalamu Alaikum

How are you? By Allah's grace, I'm doing very well.

The foundation of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology is Cryptography. Simply put, cryptography is a mathematical method by which secret information is converted into a code or signal so that it cannot be read by unauthorized persons. It is basically the science of ensuring the confidentiality and security of information. In the case of currencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum, cryptography ensures that your digital assets can only be spent by you and that no fraud occurs on the network.

What is Hashing and how does it work?

A very important part of cryptography is Hashing. Hashing is a process that converts any size of data (be it a single letter or an entire library book) into a unique string or code of a certain length. This is called a 'hash value'. Cryptocurrencies usually use a hashing algorithm called SHA-256. You can create a hash from the data, but it is impossible to recover the original data from the hash. The hash is always different for each piece of information. Even changing a comma or space in the original information radically changes the entire hash code. This is called the 'avalanche effect'. No matter how large the information you input, the output will always be of a certain length.

Importance of Hashing in Blockchain

Hashing in blockchain technology acts as a 'digital fingerprint' or fingerprint. Each block stores the hash of the previous block. If someone tries to change the information in a block even slightly, the hash of that block will change. Since the next block was linked to the old hash, that connection will be broken and the entire chain will become invalid. Because of this hashing system, it is almost impossible to hack the blockchain or forge information.

Other uses of cryptography

In addition to hashing, public and private keys are used in cryptography. Your public key is like your bank account number, which you can give to others to send money. And your private key is like your digital signature or password, which you use to authorize transactions. Crypto wallets work by combining these two.

Conclusion

In short, cryptography is the backbone of blockchain and hashing is the main guard of its security. Without this technology, it would not be possible to maintain trust and ownership in the digital world. It is through the use of hashing that blockchain is able to create an immutable and transparent digital ledger. Whenever you make a crypto transaction, these complex mathematical hashing and cryptographic algorithms behind the scenes keep your assets safe. This amazing use of technology is leading us towards the secure digital economy of the future. Today's discussion concludes here. I hope you've found it interesting.
