What is your attitude toward folklore?
If I had been asked this question many years ago, I would have honestly said that folklore, particularly music and songs, and I are on separate paths, never intersecting. Indeed, that's exactly how it was.
In those distant times, there were no music streaming channels or internet. Television had three programs, one of which only appeared on air in the evening, and during breaks, like on radio stations without any airwaves, Doina, Moldovan national music, and songs would be heard.
When I heard them, I would turn off the device they were coming from, so as not to be irritated.
Perhaps this was partly because I didn't know the Moldovan language, as it was called then, and couldn't grasp the essence of it.
But even if I were a native speaker, I wouldn't have been able to connect with the folklore sung there.
And they sang of beautiful, hilly Moldova, green meadows, and people as free as birds.
On the sunlit hills, grapes ripened, which would bring even more joy to Moldovan farmers when they saw the harvest and rivers of wine flowed without end.

You had to live to see your hair turn gray, witness a war, to understand how true and valuable these folkloric notes of Doina are for rethinking life's values.
