The moment I became an adult.
The moment I became an adult.
There are many opinions about when exactly a child becomes an adult.
In some tribes, a child must defeat a lion in a hunt, while in others, a child must endure the bite of a terrifying and very dangerous ant without crying. Some believe that adulthood comes with planting a tree, building a house, and starting a family... It's hard to argue with that, and I won't argue; I'll just express my opinion on the matter.
I think adulthood comes when you stop lugging snails, beetles, spiders, and stray cats and dogs around with you.
Remembering my childhood, I realize how many surprises I presented to my parents every week, if not every day.
They come home from work, open the door, and are greeted by yet another potential pet in the form of a dog or some other creature.
Only as an adult did I understand how my parents felt. On the one hand, they didn't want to upset me, but on the other, they weren't ready to welcome another pet into our family.
As a child, you don't understand the sense of responsibility that Antoine de Saint-Exupéry taught the world about. But on the other hand, you understand more that a homeless animal can be very lonely and difficult to live without someone who can care for it and share a sausage.
