❤️❤️❤️ In Uganda, we often drove past quarries.
Most of the time we were in a cab or bus.
We always felt the need to talk to the people working there to find out more about their hard work.
Unfortunately, it never happened.

That's why we thought we'd give it a try from faraway Germany with the help of our Bosco.

He has now got a new mobile with your help,
so that we can resume our "work".

For all of you who don't know this:
there in the quarry, large stones are smashed into smaller and smaller stones by hand with a hammer.
Sometimes whole families work there, including small children.
Many children do not go to school. Child labor is a sad part of everyday life in Uganda.
The people there work for a pittance and there is no health and safety at work.
Injuries are common.
The fine dust is inhaled, stone splinters get into the eyes and of course it also happens that the hammer does not hit the stone but the finger.
And sometimes there is not even shade, but they sit for hours in the blazing sun.
It's a tough job!

So Bosco made his way to the quarry last week.

The people there were very unfriendly to him, unwilling to talk to him unless it was for money.

We know that the people who work there are very poor.
But we are still not prepared to pay money for conversations or photos.

So Bosco went back home....

We consulted and thought it might help if Bosco told them that we would like to report on their work in Germany.

So he went back to the quarry.

And again, they were only prepared to talk to Bosco for money.
He told them that communicating with us was also an opportunity
that they should take advantage of.

Only one woman was willing to talk and give some information.

She has five children and is a single parent.
Her husband has left her.
Not all of her children go to school,
because there is not enough money.

You can get 500 UGX (currently 0.13 US dollars or 0.12 €) for a plastic canister full of small stones. If you are very good, you can manage 10 canisters a day.

It's really staggering, isn't it?

❤️❤️❤️ In Uganda sind wir ganz oft an Steinbrüchen vorbeigefahren.
Meistens saßen wir im Taxi oder Bus.
Wir hatten immer das Bedürfnis , uns mit den Leuten, die dort arbeiten, zu unterhalten, um mehr über ihre harte Arbeit zu erfahren.
Es ist leider nie dazu gekommen.

Deshalb haben wir uns gedacht, wir versuchen das einmal aus dem fernen Deutschland mit Hilfe von unserem Bosco.

Er hat ja jetzt mit eurer Hilfe ein neues Handy bekommen ,
so dass wir unsere "Arbeit" wieder aufnehmen können.

Für alle von euch, die das nicht wissen:
dort im Steinbruch werden grosse Steine in immer kleinere Steine zertrümmert und das von Hand mit einem Hammer.
Teilweise arbeiten dort ganze Familien , auch kleine Kinder.
Viele Kinder gehen nicht zur Schule. Kinderarbeit ist trauriger Alltag in Uganda.
Die Menschen dort arbeiten für einen Hungerlohn, Arbeitsschutz ist nicht vorhanden.
Verletzungen kommen häufig vor.
Der feine Staub wird eingeatmet, Steinsplitter geraten ins Auge und natürlich kommt es auch vor, dass der Hammer nicht den Stein, sondern den Finger trifft..
Und manchmal gibt es nicht einmal Schatten, sondern sie sitzen stundenlang in der prallen Sonne.
Es ist ein Knochenjob!

Also machte sich Bosco letzte Woche auf den Weg zum Steinbruch.
Die Leute dort waren sehr unfreundlich zu ihm, nicht bereit mit ihm zu reden, es sei denn für Geld.
Wir wissen, dass die Menschen, die dort arbeiten, sehr arm sind.
Aber wir sind trotzdem nicht bereit, Geld zu bezahlen für Gespräche oder Fotos.

Also ging Bosco wieder nach Hause....

Wir haben uns beraten und wir dachten, es hilft vielleicht, wenn Bosco ihnen erzählt, dass wir in Deutschland über ihre Arbeit berichten möchten.

Er ging also noch einmal zum Steinbruch.

Und wieder waren sie nur bereit für Geld mit Bosco zu sprechen.
Er sagte ihnen, dass die Kommunikation mit uns doch auch eine Chance sei,
die sie nutzen sollten.

Nur eine Frau war bereit, etwas zu erzählen und ein paar Informationen zu geben.

Sie hat fünf Kinder und ist alleinerziehend.
Ihr Mann hat sie verlassen.
Nicht alle ihre Kinder gehen zur Schule,
da das Geld fehlt.

Für einen Kunststoffkanister voll kleiner Steine bekommt man 500 UGX (das sind im Moment 0,13 US-Dollar bzw. 0,12 €). Wenn man sehr gut ist, kann man 10 Kanister am Tag schaffen.

Es ist wirklich erschütternd, oder??

We sent Bosco money for Emmanuel today.
Yes, he is still alive and walking with his crutches. We continue to provide him and his family with medication and food/clothing.

And of course we also sent money for the mother of five from the quarry.....

Wir haben Bosco heute Geld für Emmanuel geschickt.
Ja, er lebt immer noch und ist mit seinen Krücken unterwegs. Wir versorgen ihn und seine Familie weiterhin mit Medikamenten und Lebensmitteln /Kleidung.

Und natürlich haben wir auch für die fünffache Mutter vom Steinbruch Geld geschickt.....
