Ancient Patterns, Modern Tech: Creating a Pre-Columbian Digital Artifact
Today, I’m sharing a workflow that bridges the gap between ancient geometric art and modern 3D technology. There is something incredibly grounding about taking a motif from centuries ago and breathing new life into it using digital tools.
I started by hand-drawing an intricate Pre-Columbian pattern using Blender’s Grease Pencil.
I then moved into 3D mode to model a traditional ceramic pot, focusing on organic, earthen curves that would have been used by ancestral artisans.
I used UV Unwrapping to wrap my 2D design around the 3D clay. Finally, I added grainy, kiln-fired shaders to give the final render an authentic, museum-quality texture.
