Evening walk at the biggest shopping mall in Bangkok.

This was the first time, after two years’ lockdown, that I went for an evening walk around the biggest shopping mall by the river in Bangkok. It’s called IconSiam. It is located on the east side of the river so we need to take the local ferry boats from Sathorn Pier for IconSiam Pier. The shopping mall has several boats for free ride to IconSiam pier. So, lots of local people just take the free boat ride to have a walk on the other side of the river.

IconSiam is one of the most luxurious and high end mall with expensive brand name imports! So, I could never afford to buy any piece of those luxurious items. But I quite like to have my walking exercise there while browsing all the amazing goods in the display windows.

I was so glad to see lots of tourists returning back to Bangkok and shopping malls become crowded once again. The past two years had been terrible for shop owners, vendors and their staff. People were without income and life became very difficult. So, I am very hopeful to see crowds of tourists in Bangkok again. Working people are smiling though they have to work much harder.

The lightings at IconSiam were very nice but they no longer have the fountain display of dancing water and lights as in the past. I hope that Chinese tourists would be allowed to travel soon. They are big spenders and liked Thai food a lot. Restaurants would be very happy to see Chinese tourist!

I had a quick look around those expensive shops inside IconSiam. There were people everywhere! The food court and restaurants were fully occupied. I had never seen this mall so crowded before. What would happen when the Chinese guided tours arrived in Bangkok?! We could run out of food and fruits for a few days.

I decided not to be there for the Christmas evening firework as the crowds would be too overwhelming. But the New Year’s firework displays should be the best in Bangkok.

I wondered whether I should try to be along the river to catch the fireworks display. Most Buddhist temples would have midnight prayer to celebrate the new year. I have to decide which option would be best for me!
