On my way to feed stray cats at Yannawa Temple.

Sometimes the traffic along New Road could be quite tiresome. But this gave me the opportunity to show you how crazy the traffic jam could look in Bangkok. I parked my car at the shopping mall and walked towards Yannawa temple where some twenty stray cats would be waiting for their food and snacks.

There were some old skyscrapers around this narrow road. The unfinished tower is called ‘ the Ghost Tower’ which has become quite well known among adventurous tourists who climbed all the way to the top to take photos during sunset. Lots of ghost stories surrounding that building and I wouldn’t go inside that building.

The entrance to the temple was rather narrow as it was built long time ago. In the old days, people couldn’t imagine that cars and trucks could become quite big! I approached the temple just before the sunset.

The light of the setting sun made the temple looked glittering and golden. There’s so much space in this temple which made me feel very relaxing. But I would have liked to see more old trees. Lots of trees were cut down during the construction of new buildings.

There are several shrine rooms in this temple with lots of old statues and antique objects. But I still had no time to observe each shrine room in detail. Some shrines and Buddha statues were almost two hundred years old. The atmosphere in this temple is peaceful and relaxing; people could just walk around and have a picnic by the river. But I’ve had to be careful about those birds at the pier!

It would take me over an hour to feed the stray cats around the four corners of the temple. These cats could recognise me straightaway and they would be running to greet me. I wished mire people would bring some left over food to feed these cats. Visitors sometime would share their stick food with some cats who were daring enough to ask for food.

I tried to visit the temple and feed these cats twice a week. One friend has donated some money for buying cat food which is getting more expensive each month; the price is shooting up! Inflation is a problem everywhere! Hope that the financial turmoil will subside as soon as possible.
