The Parable of the Healing Process

in Steem Ghana2 years ago

A friend spoke about what happens in the ICU when a 3rd-degree burn patient is brought in the things that ought to be done to not only save the life but also help them heal and get better over time, the goal is to have a minimal level of scar tissue and to regain normalcy or as close to normalcy as possible.

This patient may have to endure the pain of having the dead tissues of the burns removed at least every two hours from the skin to allow new ones to come, as painful as this sounds this is the only way to ensure that the person can heal and that scaring is kept at a minimum.

To help the patient endure this pain the attending may pump him or her up full of pain meds so that the pain can be tolerable especially whiles the cutting process is going on, but rest assured he or she will still feel that pain, they won't be completely numb and eventually when those drugs wear off, the pain will be felt truly as it is.

Then she told me that every one of us has death tissues that we have obtained as a result of certain things we have experienced in our lives, pains, and trauma from our relationships, friendships, families, schools, etc., and our minds, these are the third-degree burns that need debriding.

For some of us, we tend to dull the ache with drugs, alcohol, and other forms of coping mechanisms that work for us but it is not a permanent solution and eventually, when the drug wears off you will get to experience the reality as it truly is. The only true path to healing is slow and painful and yet inevitable. Once we allow ourselves to endure this we will come out better and stronger.

Yes there may be scare tissues that may take quite a long time to fade away, thus if they will even fade away, we may be changed forever by certain experiences, but we don't stay back, we move on, we fight and we grind every day, for each day has its troubles and worries and if you focus only on the past you will never move forward.

So let the pain guide you and teach you, let it be an experience, allow the slow process to go on, endure the pain and allow time to be your ally, and eventually, when all is said and done, you can smile at the light that will be shining bright for you at the end of the tunnel.
